Solo BG2/ToB as a Fighter or Barbarian with the following weapon proficiencies:

    Fighter:

    *** Bastard Sword
    *** Darts

    Barbarian:

    ** Bastard Sword
    ** Spear
    ** Darts

    Talk about your useless proficiencies!

I don't think any weapons are useless, though I'd certainly laugh at a dart-throwing fighter. ;)

Seriously, I don't think this would be very hard to do, at least not if you permit yourself to reload as much as you want.

I would accept the challenge had I not had heaps of other games lying around, waiting for completion. And then I don't play as often now, mainly because the speakers died some days ago. :(

Darts aren't that crappy, get some darts of wounding or an asp's nest. Since this IS in the ToB forum I'll mention that you can find a +3 or +4 bastard sword on the first level of watcher's keep so you CAN find a decent one before the Underdark. I'd take up your little challenge, but I'm having too much fun with my Assassin/Mage as it is :D.

I like bastard swords. Even in SOA Gerald the fighter used Jhor the Bleeder as one of his main weapons. He's now using the souped up Foebane and doing just grand. Darts, also, can be handy, particularly if you give them to a predominantly melee orientated character who isnt too concerned with causing much damage over a distance but may need to distract a spellcaster long enough to smack them round the head with Jhor the Bleeder :D There are no (unintentionally) crap weapons in BG2.

Forbane is one of, if not the best sword in ToB. And for the record, it is a bastard sword. My main fighter used it throughout the entire game, and did extremely well with that alone. Darts are somewhat humerous, but then possibly useful for a fighter with a shield that wants a ranged weapon on occasion. Me, I've always used daggers or a throwing axe if I must, but there are a few good darts in the game that largely go unused by me. Spear isn't that bad either. I've got a ranger right now in HoW that uses a spear sometimes, so I can't complain.

For a real challange, how about a fighter that uses just daggers/sling;)

Yeah, I have my Stalker using a Spear as his main weapon and a short sword for backstabbing. Good combo, since not many NPCs use these weapons, freeing up a lot of good stuff for them. I suppose I'll finish SoA with the Imapaler Spear +3 and Cutthroat +4, not bad weapons at all.

It also fits into his gladiator type image :D.

Clubs are pretty useless. I know there's the Club of Detonation, which is pretty good admittedly.... but why bother?

Anyone who can use a club can also use better weapons. Fighters and Clerics have hammers/maces, druids have staves....

As for useless PROFICIENCIES, I'd have to cast my vote for "sword and shield style." Who uses that anyway, and WHY?

Finally, for those of you looking for a challenge try playing a BARD solo. (Just the regular class) - they're not much good at ANYTHING!!!

    Cheers....

Clubs aren't useless at all, there is Blackblood +3, which gives 3 acid damage in addition to +3 damage and THACO, Gnasher +2, which gives additional bleeding damage, Bone Club +2, which does +3 vs Undead. A druid can only put one point in each thing anyway, so you'll have a wide variety of weapons to use. Plus they look very cool :).

Putting 2 points in Sword and Shield style helps a lot, giving a -4 bonus to missle weapons in addition to the shield's AC bonuses.

For even more fun, use Sword and Shield style and a club! :)

Ack, enough with the class bashing. They are ALL good, just some people like to play different classes. Bards can hold their own just as well as any fighter or mage, it's all up to the player. Didn't you learn this when that guy did a Wizard Slayer solo? Besides, the Bard is a party man, it's just not right to have him on his own.
