[IMG]Over at 1up, they have written 4 essays based on the topic of "Are We What We Play" thinking about the roles we choose to portray in games.

    Here's a peek:

MTV Multiplayer blogger Stephen Totilo recently asked his audience to consider the roles we choose to play and to contemplate what -- if anything -- these decisions say about our desires. To argue that "it's just a game", he insisted, is a cop out.

Totilo's piece inspired me to question the extent to which videogames manage to immerse me in any role -- criminal, soldier, or conqueror. It also offered an excellent excuse to launch a pet project: a collection of personal essays (call them columns if you want) that riff on a central theme. I enlisted 1UP's PC Editor-in-Chief Jeff Green, Group Managing Editor Jennifer Tsao, and PC Senior Executive Editor Sean Molloy -- each of whom attacked the topic from a uniquely thought-provoking angle.
