How do I get it? I am doing the unseeing eye part right now, and I have not found out anything about a stronghold quest. Is it qued by meeting the red dragon or something? I have been holding off on doing that since I want to insult him and keeel heem this time when I first meet him, instead of wimper at his feet then come back later to kill him. I am a cavalier after all...

Having never played a Paladin myself, the best I can tell you is that you need to go to the Order of the Radiant Heart, in the Temple District. They will probably have some quests for you to undertake which will get you your stronghold.

Who did the lil kid tell you to go see after you first met with the shadow thief guy in the slums? he should point you to the npc who will kick start your stronghold quest.

fighter/monk is sent to see nalia, mage/sorcer to see the cowled wizard who is after valygar, and thiefs are send to see renal.

I don't know whether it was a prerequisite or not, but I was sent to the order of the radiant heart after completing the quest by Lord Firaag in the Copper Coronet. It's possible that you don't need to do this first though, I didn't check.

The paladin doesnt get a stronghold at all. they get to join the noble order of the radiant heart. try the quest that the guy in the order gives you to kill the fallen paladins. that may get you in the order. im working on my undead hunter now.

paladins get no stronghold. they just get to join the noble order of the radiant heart. which is better in my opinion. if you havent tried already, talk to the paladin near the front inside of the radiant heart building. he'll tell you to hunt down some fallen paladins in the top right of the bridge district.

[IMG] as a paladin and a member of the Order, I can help you out. I am also going to post some spoilers, so be warned if you dont want to know.

The first step is to complete the Rescue Garrens Daughter From the Dragon quest, and he will tell you to go to the Order's place and talk to them.

Then I went ahead and did the Fallen Paladin quest, I am not sure if it is required, but I did it anyway.

Now, talk to the head of the order in his office and he'll welcome you in and have you talk to another Paladin, his name slips my mind at the moment but he is in the middle of the main hall. He gives you a couple of quests, and I'll walk you through them now.

The first task is to go to the Umar Hills to deal with a land dispute between a Baron and some accused squatters. when you arrive one of the baron's men will greet you and escort wou to the meeting site at the town inn. he will tell you to NOT speak with the squatters, but that is EXCATLY what you should do. there are three of them outside the inn, just be polite to them and they will tell you of things the baron has done to them to steal their land. After speaking with all of them, go inside and talk with the baron. Tell him what the squatters told you and he'll go psycho and he and his men will atta k you, so waste 'em good, talk with the squatters again and report back to the order. They will be a little miffed you wasted the guy you were supposed to help but as long as you let them know he was a land thief, they'l let it go.

The next quest is a bit harder, at the docks next to the temple is a house with a important girl you MUST protect from assassins until her Uncle arrives in the morning to take her to safety. Unfortunatley you quickily find out she is the mother of all spoiled brats. during the night she will approach you to try to get you to leave, just keep politely sending her back to her room. At some point a group of assassins WILL attack, one of them will run up the stairs. Take care of the ones in your room, then SAVE THE GAME! and head up after him. You'll find him chasing after your ward, if you've got a cleric, have him or her cast Hold Person while you have the others try to block him off. He WILL kill her in one hit, so you might have to reload a few times ( i did :()
She wont be very appreciative of your rescue and sends you back downstairs. After that a man who says he is her uncle will come in and angrily demand you turn her over to him. DO NOT DO THIS!!!!!! Ask him to identify himself, he will not and continue to demand his neice. Go upstairs and ask her if she can ID her uncle, she will say she has never met him before and can't. go back downstairs, refuse to hand her over and he will attack, go ahead and kill him. (If you give her over and report back to the order, you find out he was actually a disguised assassin and you get kicked out of the order. Good thing I saved before that!) after you waste him, talk to the girl and she will tell you to report to the order, go ahead and do so. You get told her uncle picked her up safe and sound and you get a suit of Full Plate +2, a Shield +2, and it is also mentioned how the Red Dragon has a Holy Avenger Sword and could you go and kill it at your lesiure please? I have yet to do this, and I wont until my guy gets tougher.

    Good fortune to you!

The man that gives you those quests says that there is a room for you behind him. If it was the room I saw, it's very small and has no storage space, so I just put my stuff in the storage room next door .

Anyway, my first quest from him was about an invasion of some humanoid deserters from a foreign army into Umar Hills. I did that and my reputation increased. I've already got my holy avenger sword (got it at lvl 9 :) ).

Cengh: My experience with the assassins quest was different. I handed her over to the man and when I returned to the Order I was told that she was safe with her uncle. The reason for his bad mood when speaking to you was that he had just been attacked himself before arriving at the house. I guess whatever choice you make in that quest is the correct one, although I still feel that respect for authority and the word of a superior is more paladin-like roleplayingwise.

Personally, I hate paladins. Self righteous assholes. My Neutral good Kensai takes every opportunity to be rude to them at the hall of the radiant heart.
    hahaha

Of course I do what is right. My point is there was no reason not to trust the man. There was no clue anywhere that he was not the right person. He didn't act strangely, there wasn't anything in the house to put any doubts as to the man's identity (no pictures, letters, etc.). You don't attack people and try to kill them on the basis of a slight doubt, more created by the situation itself and my frame of mind than anything else. I asked him if he could identify himself. He couldn't, but there was nothing that pointed to him not telling the truth (as there usually are in games and movies :)), so I apologised to the man and let him take her with him.

Btw, I sided with the farmers against the baron in the other quest and my character's name is Veracitas, so I value truth above "duty". But if you don't value respect and bootlicking at all, you're not fit to be a paladin :p.

I bet that if it was real life you wouldn't be so dumb as to hand the girl over.

While there is no clue that he is the wrong person, there is no clue that he is the RIGHT person either!

It's a pity that Baldur's Gate 2 doesn't seem to allow you a non-lethal way of resolving conflicts.

I would have Held the bugger and then knocked him unconscious, bound him with rope and then tell him he has been arrested!

[IMG] Call me dumb once more and I'll do to you like I've done to your namesake hundreds of times. Then you'll see violence for no good reason :). I'm roleplaying here. This is not real life. And I got the quest reward, didn't I?

I can think of at least four situations where conflict could be solved without resorting to violence, if not five. Admittedly one of them does involve combat, but not to the death. Much better than in most other FRPGs where you either talk or kill. Here you sometimes have the option ;)

[IMG] Well, at least I'm not named after a worthless piece of experience in Diablo II :p.

You don't even have the game yet, so you haven't seen this quest... I'm roleplaying a paladin (cavalier), which doesn't necessarily share my view of things. He has a strong sense of duty, and he believes in a moral right. I'm trying to avoid combat, and I'm not a trigger happy cowboy, all right :)?
I even let Minsc try to charm the wild animals (lions, etc.) first and only kill them if that doesn't work. I will not accept stealing from innocents, and no, I will not try to kill Drizzt just because he's there. I'm playing a lawful good, naive, dutiful, truthseeking paladin.

    Ok, so he's dumb...

Besides, I tried Detect Evil and got no results. What more could I do without breaking with my character ideals?

[IMG] Lol! I guess we're even now eh? I just had to put that quip in because I felt double-dog-dared. :D

    Truce? :)

Well, I thought of detect evil and know alignment (can't forget those Chaotic Neutral Assassins or whatever) too, but there are limits to those spells. One would be the bugger starting dialogue as soon as he sees you (and you him); this would give you no time to cast any spells, and you can't cast any during conversation either.

Detect Lie would be useful only if used with detect delusion and detect insanity.

    So many problems. :(

Luckily it's just a game, and luckily there was a happy ending too! :)

Unless you progress for a few weeks and get note from the order that the "uncle" was actually an assassin and that you're kicked out. :(

From what I understand, the decision as to whether or not he's her uncle is either completely random or it has to do with your reputation, previous quests, etc.
