    The thief has several 'duties'.
2 of them I have problems to fit together.

Scouting: To stealth ahead of the party to find any monsters so that the whole party can prepare for them.

Detect traps: staying ahead of the party detecting traps so the party doesn't have to step in them, also awards some exp for disarming.

Since you can't stealth and detect traps same time... how can I watch for upcoming monsters and traps at the same time?

I know that I could just reload if I would be unlucky enough to walk on a trap but that feels a bit like cheating to me.

Just wondering how others go about this problem?

You can stealth and detect traps at the same time, but only for a round at a time. If you stealth, when you come out of stealth you've got a full round (6 seconds) until you're visible again, during which time you can be detecting traps.

Other options are using a Ring or Potion of Invisibility to be invisible while you detect traps, or having the Staff of the Magi on a Mage/Thief combo (or any thief if you get *ahem*). You could also have a monk as your trap detector (though they can't disarm the traps), since they can take care of themselves if they run into monsters.

yeah. A viable option that works in different combinations is to have two characters to do the tasks. Stealth one to go on ahead and bring the trap detector in behind. Monks as have been pointed out work well in both spots but the thief would have to remove the traps. Rangers can be good scouts with the thief backup. Or if you really like backstabbing the crap out of things. Use two thieves.

The idea with using invisibility was gallant!
But I'll go with the idea of stealthing and detecting traps. :thumb:
Will just need to get used to pressing those 2 buttons every 6 seconds.

Or better yet...if you have Immy or Nalia, have them memorize a 'Wizard's Eye' spell, and use the eye to scout. If a creature (demons and liches) can see the invisable eye, and it dies...you will know where the badie is, and you wouldn't have lost anything except your pet floating eyeball... :thumb: :rolling:

Don't forget the priest spell detect traps. It won't disarm them but at least you'll be able to avoid them.
