I've become thoroughly familiar with it by now, as I'm nearing a completed draft of a walkthrough for SP.

    Mixed feelings about it overall.

A large part of me is asking if we even needed it to begin with. By analogy, can't we just accept Han Solo's boast that he did the Kessel run in under 12 Parsecs instead of having to make a whole movie showing it? I'm seeing SoD in a similar way. Rumors swirling that your character shares the same dark blood as Sarevok, and then Irenicus and his vampires take an interest in you. Yeah, that worked plenty well as a sequel hook on its own.

The paltry selection of NPCs was another downer for me. Evil party, I want my Dwarf tank back dammit! :shake:

Caelar was kind of flat and uninspiring for me as an antagonist. More like a character pulled out of the hat and contrived in order to set up a Belhifet tie in.

It did have its good points though. The voice acting for Irenicus AKA The Hooded Man was a highlight for me, definitely David Warner worthy.

And some of the combats even unmodded were a challenge.

It was okay, but it was a bit like the OST: conceptually fitting, but average execution. Nothing really convinced me that it added something to the story. Only things that stood out for me were the marching soldiers in BG, which added a kind of scale/grandeur and Captain Corwin, a character I actually really liked.

Yeah, she was definitely a no-nonsense type. Even as she was juggling being a single-mother.

While some things are very well made, I too think that the entire interquel idea was entirely unnecessary. Not to mention that forcing Irenicus on the player throughout the whole game lessens the mystique and sense of dread you're supposed to be feeling from him. Some questions don't need to be answered.

Caelar was entirely lawful stupid and the entire expansion storyline was contrived to the point of being insulting.

I think most of the interesting parts of the expansion could have just as easily been made as additional content for the base game, and you could cut out large swaths of it and be none the poorer.

The biggest high point, for me, is that it does present me with the perfect chance to continue Ayden's storyline in my mod, once I finally get around to it.
