Greetings to my fellow Icewind Dale players and thank you for welcoming me to this board! I've been using the guides and walkthroughs hosted on this website for quite some time now so I am thrilled to register an account here.
Right now I'm dealing with a terribly annoying visual artifact/glitch that occurs every time I run the game. I'm running a 64-bit Windows 10 system and as you can imagine the game doesn't work right out of the box despite GOG's best efforts at backwards compatibility. I've gone through the steps laid out in the following guide: https://zeckul.wordpress.com/2012/01/10/icewind-dale-2-ultimate-installation-guide/
Although everything else seems to be working just fine, the fog of war looks like one of those Microsoft Word patterns for objects that you select for additional texture. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I have recently installed the Microsoft DirectX SDK in case that's what I need to fiddle with in order to get this glitch out of the way. I eagerly look forward to your tips and suggestions. I'm open to the most desperate of solutions right now.

Have you tried changing the setting for Hardware acceleration ?
To do so, find your icewind2.ini file, locate the line "3D Acceleration=X" and change the value to either 0 or 1, depending on what it is set to initially.

Hi guys, I've already tried those fixes to very little effect. Anyway, I've given up tweaking the graphics and DirectX settings for some peace of mind. The fog doesn't seem all that bad anymore as the gameplay more than makes up for the aged visuals and interface. Perhaps I had been too pedantic about the aesthetic aspects of Icewind Dale 2 prior to becoming invested in the storyline and game mechanics. I would like to thank you all for pitching in with your tweaks nevertheless. Hopefully there will be an enhanced edition of some sort in the foreseeable future. IWD-in-EET seems to be our best bet right now.

Just to be sure, you HAVE installed DirectX 9.0c, not just relied on having a more modern version installed already, correct? I don't know if it would help, but other games had problems without the older DirectX.
