INT 6 is a pretty heavy investment, though. That's a lot of points I could've put in STR instead, so I do more damage while punching. CHA seems like a decent investment, though, 3 or 4 will give you quite some conversation options and won't cost too much (well, still 6-10 points).

Haven't seen that many enemies that try to run up and punch you, but it's true that I could reliably punch as hard as Eiger hit with the sniper rifle.

I don't mind the linearity of the game, it also gives more focus to the main story, which always tends to be lacking in the more open world games. Not being able to snatch a shotgun off a corpse (that you just created) doesn't make a whole lot of sense, though.

Several of the times it happened was with guys that just spawned, and there were no mages in those groups.

In Dragonfall I can think of only one mission like that (the one where you break into an Aztech building), though there may have been more that I didn't have access to because I didn't take a decker, or wasn't a decker myself.

Really, I don't think there's enough points in Dragonfall to max anything out. Well, if I'd played as a human, I'd have maxed out STR, I suppose.

In Planescape you can max out most of the important stats by the end of the game, though. Just to make sure you max out WIS as soons as possible.

In Fallout, it's definitely possible to go both full speech and max ranged or melee, and even some science or repair to get some more options. Also, in Fallout (and also in PS:T), it is possible to stealth, in the sense that you can see enemies without them immediately seeing you as well.

    Troll, INT6 = maxed out.

Humans are - as most times - the standard. But if you want a more physical approach to combat in your game an Orc or a Troll are good choices for their racial boni and higher maximum (e.g. human body max 9, troll max 17 that you could never achieve without neglecting everything else).

Played through Zombie Shooter 2 recently. It's like Alien Shooter 2, except, as the names suggest, with zombies instead of aliens. Essentially, it's the same game, the weapons are the same, the characters you can choose have the same models, the same skills (mostly), even some of the levels are the same.

I'm not entirely sure if those levels that are the same are copied from alien shooter 2 to zombie shooter 2, or the other way around. The original alien shooter 2 had a slightly different skill tree, where you'd level up specific weapon skills. This was changed for the alien shooter 2 version that I have (reloaded, I believe), where there is just an accuracy skill that increases weapon damage for all weapons. Zombie shooter 2 has the same skill setup as alien shooter 2: reloaded, though it retains the choice to chose a trait (whether to find more money, heal on kills, some other stuff), which was removed in the reloaded version.

Either way, it seems to me that the game balance was changed a bit in zombie shooter 2, where there are (somewhat) less enemies, and those enemies are individually a bit tougher as well. At least there are not hordes upon hordes of small, low hp, enemies that you blow up, just human sized ones (the zombies). The weapons are the same, but it seems to me that the economy, or the timing that you can get these weapons, is a bit different. In alien shooter 2, I could have 3, maybe even 4 end game level weapons, for different weapon types. In zombie shooter 2, I'm lucky to be able to afford even one end game level weapon, maybe a second close to end game.

It's not much, but it does make a difference, in that you need to scrape around to get those weapons, or you're going to be suffering.

There seemed to be a bit more clipping issues than I was used to from alien shooter 2, too.

All in all, it's good for what it is, i.e. mindless fun in blasting everything moving apart. But I think alien shooter 2 did it better.

Dragon Warrior Monsters for the Game Boy Color. A Pokemon clone but better, with an overly-complex but very rewarding breeding system, I tend to whip it out every couple of years and get to the end of it.

I bought the new DOOM, since it's on sale for 5 EUR. I am thoroughly enjoying playing it on ultra settings on my new rig.

Funny coincidence, I just got it from the Mt. Prospect "Book Sale" last week[end] for two dollars. I don't know what the exchange rate is, but probably about the same.
I haven't installed it yet because I wanted to finish the run-through of the Gold Box games (which will probably take a month) I started earlier this month. Sadly things got busy at work and I did not have much time for games, working 6 days a week and my mom's having health problems and I wound up spending time with her at the hospital.

Is it any good? I've only played Doom 2 for Macintosh, although once I got to try the original Doom on a laptop belonging to a relative that lived in Denver (while I live in the NW suburbs of Chicago).

Considering the disappointment that was Doom 3, the new reboot blows everything else out of the water. The only gripe I have about it is that it has no co-op mode. Being able to RIP AND TEAR with a buddy would be hella fun, even if canonically there's only one Doomguy (kind of, depending on the lore).

I picked up Venetica 'cos it was on sale on GoG for less that the price of a cup of tea (London price :p), and was pleasantly surprised. Maybe it was because the opening cut-scene was the most godawful collection of cliches, thus ensuring everything else was an improvement from there. :shake:

Have been enjoying exploring its world, and the aesthetic. Cons are the combat is highly exploitable and some of the dialog and voice acting isn't well done, including the classic "voice-over bears little relationship to the subtitle" balls-up.

I just picked up BattleChasers: Nightwar: steam had it on sale. So far it's not bad. I'm trying to figure out which of the characters I'll like having in my party most once I get the second half of the party. There are six characters but I think you can only travel with 3 at a time.

Would like to play the newer Doom as well, but it's not on GoG yet, so I'll wait. Knowing Betheshda, might wait a long time, possibly forever, but thems the chops.

Aside from that, been playing Fallout 1 and 2 recently. Haven't quite finished Fallout 2, though it's not much more than finishing up some quests here and there, then going to the Enclave. It's been a long time since I last played either game, but they're still very enjoyable to play. The turn-based combat is not as refined as Jagged Alliance 2, but it's still very satisfying to play. That may have something to do with the death animations, and the way it's entirely possible to get a critical on each and every shot by the end of the game, courtesy of the aimed shots, which in turn can cause massive amounts of damage, or, if the ciritical rolls right, cause instant death.

The original Fallout was shorter than I remembered, though. Just a handful of quests for any one place, if that many. It's pretty easy to just go everywhere and do everything. If I hadn't gotten some extra experience from getting some extra encounters here and there, I wouldn't even have reached level 15, I think (max is 21). I was a bit surprised how quickly I'd gone to all the different places, even while doing most things that I could.

It's noticeable that for Fallout 2 they had a lot more time for content, that game is huge, and so full of small little details that you won't notice unless you really start for look for them. There are many more places to go, usually with more quests for each place to do as well. Some of the places do feel a bit sparse, though, where there is not a lot to do, and not much unique dialog, either. Still, the game is huge, and there is a lot to do, and, supposing you follow the... way the game guides you (not much of a story line to follow, really, though there are many, many smaller threads that the game likes to spin everywhere), there is a steady progression of equipment and power of your character.

Since I know the game, I had some fun and took some shortcuts to get the good guns and armour straight away. Which is pretty hard to do, really, because the random encounters in the places where you find this equipment are quite nearly impossible when all you've got is a spear and no armour.

Fallout 2 also has more uses for different skills. In Fallout 1 you really needed only some combat skill, speech, lockpick for convenience, some science and repair. The rest was mostly for flavour. In Fallout 2, there is more of a use for stuff like traps, stealing, more use for something like bartering in conversation as well (when negotiating rewards for quests, for instance).

I never completed BG with a pure class Mage of any sort (actually, I haven't completed the games with a lot of the classes), so I'm currently at the first map of Cloakwood with my grotesquely overpowered Conjurer & Co. I've done every map so far except for the TotSC areas. So there...

Do a run with SCS if you want more of a challenge. Unless you enjoy being overpowered, of course.

I've tried playing Fallout games on many occasions. I spend ages planning out my character, then play for an hour or two and quit. I just can't feel any pull.

My characters are Gorion's Wards. The offspring of a homicidal (as in literally the god of homicide) god. They're supposed to be overpowered! :D

I had the same notion for years after I got Fallout 1. I borrowed it a long time ago, but it was bugridden as hell back in the days, and I ditched it for, like, 10 years. Then suddenly I got an email one day. There was a one-day offer on Steam. Fallout 1 for free. Hell to the friggin' yes. I got it and patched it with Fixt, but still I never really got around to play much. I just couldn't arse myself past Junktown. Well, in the end I simply forced myself. As in that I let Fallout 1 run in the background consistently. And I wasn't allowed to even LOOK at another game, until I had completed it. I was actually pleasantly surprised, as I progressed further along.

But many games are a slog for the first 15-20% (or maybe even more). I suppose Fallout fits that template as well.

Not sure why you'd plan out that much for a character in Fallout. It's not like NWN where you need a bloody flowchart to plan a build. Just remember that with good speech and IN, you can talk your way through most of the important parts.

Fallout 2 has that much more than Fallout. It takes quite a while before you even get a gun, and using just a spear (or your fists) gets a bit tedious after a while. But hey, nothing is stopping you from just going to the high level places and get all the good gear right from the beginning, which will make the rest of the game a walk in the park. Like I did.

Though I guess that would be a weird thing to do on the first playthrough ;)

Because I don't know the system or the game, and I want to do everything in a single run, so I have to spend time studying the system and then planning to get everything just right.

Or just find the right guide ;) It's offline now (though there are copies up at NMA and the Fallout wikis), but Per Jorner's walkthrough is a very thorough guide, including some pretty good recommendations for different builds (and mentions which skills and perks are useful in the game).

Just finished the last DOOM mission. It's not a very long game (took me 17h for main campaign with a lot exploration), but most of the time I didn't have the nerves to do more than one mission at a time. Still gotta do my due diligence and complete most of the achievements (sans multiplayer ones probably, since it sucks). After that, I'm going back to finish D:OS and, once I'm done with that, I still have to finish BG:SoD.

17 hrs for an fps is pretty good nowadays.

Is D:OS some Doom expansion that I've never heard about?
