My main character reached level 11 mage. I'm not used to playing mages (She's a rogue as well) but from what I know at level 11 you're supposed to earn your right to cast level 6 spells, no? After my character hit level 11 I went to learn her new 6th level spells and there were no open level 6 spell slots. Maybe it's a bug from the Export of this character from BG 1, I'm not exactly sure. Does anyone have some insight? And what should I do next?

It's been forever, so I don't remember if this applies to 2e or not, but your mage might need an intelligence of 9 + x to cast spells, where x is the level of the spell. So, if your mage does not have an int of 15, he/she might not be able to cast 6th level spells.

Alternatively, I just googled a basic spell progression table for BG2 and it has 6th level spells at 12, not 11.

    So there's that . . .

You would be wrong. You skip a level after 10th, so you start gaining next level spells at 12th, 14th, 16th, etc.

It's usually best to consult the manual or the wiki on such matters before you start panicking and screaming buggy murder.

Yea the spell levels do not go up at a constant pace like they do in 3e and 5e. It feels like a good long while before you get your first 6th level spell slots.
