    Hi!
First of all, I'm sorry for my bad English but I am an Italian boy and I speak English only a little...

Now, I want to create e kensai-mage and I have some questions for you:
1- When have I to transform the kensai into the mage? 9 level, 10 level or higher?
2- What is the best specialization for a kensai? singol weapon or two weapon? And for that character is better katana or long sword( or maybe bastard or two handed)? Actually I prefer the first one
3-I have thougth that a kensai mage is a good but pg but i would like to know your opinion... do you think that a kensai-thief is better?
4-Finally, what are the secrets to obtain a good kensai-mage(or kensai-thief if you think that it is better)?

    Sorry sorry sorry!
Thanks a lot and a great CIAO from Italy!

You'll get different opinions on when to Dual to a Mage. But I would go to level 13 as a Kensai, then dual. At level 13, you'll gain an extra 1/2 attack per round, and it's worth the wait. When the time comes to dual, store up a lot of spell scrolls so as soon as you dual, you can learn lots of spells (and the exp will get you started leveling up quickly). This way you get get your Kensai skills back asap. As for weapons, I just can't help but see a Kensai weilding a katana. Just seems appropriate to me. Personally tho, I'd dual weild a katana (Celestial Fury anyone) and maybe a Hammer, you you can throw Crom Fayr in your off hand for the strength boost.
Now, to give you fair warning. You are creating what some consider the single most powerful dual class in the game. Once you've got the mage to level 14 and you get your Kensai skills back, don't be surprised if you start breezing through the rest of the game! :)

    Go with two weapons.

Katana, Longsword, and maybe Warhammer (make sure you've got at least (**) in Katana and longsword first).

Good advice on the scrolls, but just make sure you kick all the other party members out first.

The other really nasty weaon combo to go with (but you'll have to wait a bit) is to pump all your points into staff and two handed style. You won't regret it when you're weilding the Staff of the Magi.

    Thank you very much!
I have another question: I have thought that if I wait 13 level to dual, i will get back my kensai skills almost at the end of the game(I have only SoA)...It is true?

If you only have SoA, I'd advise dual classing at level 9.

My bad, I didn't realize which forum this was posted in.

Depending on the number of quests, you could still reach level 14 in Mage before the end of the game, but it's true that a large portion of the game will be playing "catch up," which isn't much fun.

Agreed, if you only have SoA, and don't have any mods installed, then you will want to Dual at level 9, like Klorox says. Of course, this also depends on the size of the party you intend to use. If you don't go with a full 6, you can still get your Kensai skills back relatively quickly if you dualed at 13th level, specially if you hoard your spell scrolls, breifly dump your whole party, and learn everything you can once you switch over. Only other problem is that you'll max you mage level out at 14 this way, while if you dual at level 9, you can get the mage to it's max. Ultimately, it's up to you. I would reccomend you just go get TOB, DL a few of the choicier mods, and enjoy true BGII goodness! ;)

I have tried both, I have a Kensai thief who reached levels 13/32 after completing SoA and ToB and the whole game was a walk in the park-Assuming you play standard AD&D rules-. I also have a female Kensai intended to dual at level 13, but I think she will reach about level 28 or in the long run, Wizard Xp table is far more unforgiving than Thief's. Any of two combinations seem to be very, very powerful. A Kensai/Mage is your choice if you intend to play solo. Any of them is a good option, though. As for the weapon of choice, single hand katana is a good option due to the AC bonus and-if you installed the files from collector's edition-both Celestial Fury and Zerth of Dakkon katanas are great for a Kensai mage-The former is the best katana in SoA and the latter allows you to memorize additional spells, and is found in the new retailer at the adventurer's mart.
