I've just started playing Baldur's Gate 2, I've not played the first one, I would like to know what the stronghold is for a ranger and if anyone could give me any ranger tips I'd be greatful. Thanks

 

Well, the best role model for a Ranger in BG has to be Minsc! Just do eveything he does...Go out, got a nice hampster, chinchilla, ice weasel, whatever your preference - and stomp some evil!

But seriously. There's not much advice on Rangering...It's probably good to have bow skills...I really like Minsc's two weapon attack! That's pretty cool. It used to be exclusively for Rangers, but in BG2 everyone can do it.

Also, I've heard about a sword of death, referred to as the +90, is this just a myth?

 

Sword of Death sounds like the Githyanki silver blade, which when forged with the hilt turns into a vorpal sword (it's a two-handed weapon).

Counts as a +3 or +4 weapon I think, and every hit there is a 25% chance the target will be killed or something like that.

Hmmm.....Ranger tips......ranger doesn't need any specific tips I think......if you want to use a bow, dual weapon style is definitely out as you can't use one when your offhand is equipped.

 

Dual weild wasnt for ranger only. Quite a few
moon and gold elves duel weild sword and dagger (most of them from evermeet), and artemis entreri does as well. its true that Drizzt is a ranger and does dual weild (i love that ebony elf), but a ton of his dark elven ancestors (who definitely werent rangers, heh), used duel longswords or whatever, due to their huge dexterity, i think their left hand is almost just as good as their right. but with humans that is not the case, so they only use one weapon or a weapon and sheild.

 

it is a bit annoying that you cant dual wield while using a bow - but understandable - after all, if your not using your bow, you dont want it strung - unless you want it to have the power of a peashooter after a couple of days, or have the bowstring snap in a comic/tragic way!

 

burntime, you're a moron. What kind of stupid idiot says that. Dual-wielding with a bow. How the hell do you use anything in combination with a bow? Your a straight up retard for saying something that stupid. How do you even propose to dual wield with a bow? It requires 2 hands, 1 to hold the bow and the other to pull the string and fire.

You can't equip a shield, either, if you have a 2-handed weapon in your quick slot.

 

Look. I wield two longswords and am whacking a glabrezu tanarr'i at three times a round. He runs away, far away, and I want to shoot him instead of chase.

What do I do? I sheath BOTH my swords and take out my bow. It's really surprising that Black Isle thought you can't put away your sword and it's static like a shield.
