Tried using Shadow Keeper but I don't want it to be glued on my character.

If not what do you think about FoA in right and CFury in left?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm interesting so I would need to give this as an inherent skill correct?

It's a High Level Ability you can select when your character advances a level at or after 3,000,000 xp.

If you have a high level thief or bard from another run through the game, you can try to copy it from that one in SK. I guess a save file before getting the HLA and one after getting it would be easiest to see the differences.

Or you could engineer it by giving a new character some extra XP until he gets above the 3 million XP (either through the console or SK) and then look at the differences in SK if you don't have a high level thief or bard.

Then if you copy those settings to the character you want to carry the scarlet ninja-to, (s)he should be able to use it (and incidentally (s)he should be able to use anything that (s)he was not able to first).

So, let me see if I got this.

Once I reach a high level I will be able to pick a high level buff to my character. As a Fighter/Mage I will not be able to choose "Use any weapon"

BUT if I level a thief to the same level I can choose "Use any Item" and then the skill will be in ShadowKeeper. After that I can give "Use any Item" to my Fighter/Mage as a inherent skill?

P.S Would you suggest FoA plus Equalizer or FoA plus CFury until I do this?

    Heisenberg,

    You can *try* this:
    *Save your game.
*Open the save game in Shadow Keeper
    *Select your Monk
    *Go to the "Innate" tab
    *Select Add Spell
*About 1/3 of the way down the list is Use Any Item
*Select that, and click "Assign to CharName"
    *Save

From there load your latest savefile. If all worked as hoped, you will be able to wield scarlet ninja-to with your non-monk.

I haven't tested this, mind you. Sometimes Shadow Keeper can be quirky with this stuff. But it's worth a try I think. ;)

Once you've done this your character will be able to use basically anything. I encourage you to avoid abusing this with other items lest you spoil the fun of your game. Sorry to be a broken record on this point.

Not entirely. High level abilities (HLAs) are abilities that you are able to choose at level up after you have more than 3 million xp. Different classes get to choose different HLAs. Fighters for instance get the option to choose a whirlwind attack, which they will then be able to use once a day.

Thieves and bards get to choose the ability Use Any Item, which means that after you've chosen that HLA they will be able to use any item, regardless of restrictions. See also here. This ability works only for the thief or bard that has chosen this HLA. You can't transfer it or unlock it for a F/M, for instance.

They also get to choose very powerful traps as a once a day ability. For single class thieves and bards, they get the first HLA once they reach level 24 (at 3,080,000 xp, if I'm not mistaken).

Mages and clerics generally get powerful ninth and seventh spells to chose from, respectively.

It looks like Marceror's suggestion could work, although I don't see this ability in the Innate tab for my high level thief, who certainly has the ability. SK is not 100% reliable for this kind of stuff, but it may work. Otherwise you'd have to use NearInfinity or some such and that's not that easy to use either.

Dual wielding? Equalizer in the off-hand, FoA in the main hand. Single weapon? FoA and CF, with Equalizer if you're facing off to a spell caster who is likely to cast confusion or charm.

Giving a non-thief UAI is significantly game breaking IMO. Quite frankly, that is one of the most overpowered HLA's around and probably shouldn't have been included as-is for thieves or bards.

However, in that you are already meta-gaming, I'm not sure that this would be any worse.

i would suggest not to use the scarlet ninja-to
there's no reason to mess with your saved game files in such a drastic way (i.e. cheat)
certainly not during your first playthroughs as it is for you.
just enjoy the game as it is. :)
when you've finished the game a couple of times you can try to make an overpowered character if you wish, but even then i would advice against cheating, there are already plenty of legitimate ways to make VERY powerful characters. Now it starts with a ninja-to but where will it end? a bow with a nearly infinite supply of arrows of detonation while you give everyone in the party a permanent 127% resistance against fire? (127% is max, anything above 100% will start to heal you). 25 in all stats?
it will ruin the fun for you

there are even non-cheating alternatives for the weapon, which are nearly just as good. use belm (scimitar +2) or kundane (sword sword +2), both also give the 1 extra attack (kundane doesn't mention this in the description, that's a tooltip error, not sure if the tooltip has been fixed). Since you always only do ONE attack with your off hand, no matter how many attacks you have, the impact of "only" using a +2 weapon instead of a +3 will be minimal and not noticable

It's overpowered for classes that have many restrictions, so for a Kensai/Thief it's a huge boon, but for instance for a plain fighter it's not really such a big deal.

A plain fighter can now cast stoneskin from a scroll. He can use Carsomyr. He can use the Staff of the Magi. He can use the Amulet of Power to protect from draining. He can use all wands. Heck, he can cast multiple illusion spells from scrolls as well. He can use Vhailor's helm to cast scrolls so he doesn't even use them up if he wants to.

I think he's way overpowered. Heck, it's probably better for him than a cleric type, because cleric's can't get proficiencies in a bunch of weapons that they might want to use, but the fighter can.

I have my own set of rules when it comes to meta gaming. I respect that you like to play everything straight but I was able to pass this on a technincality. Basically, I would'nt be cheating in a weapon but just giving my main character more options because I enjoy it. I am not going to do it now but would using Scarltet Ninja instead of Belm really break my game?

I doubt it. Its not considered cheating at all to make 6 characters in MP and bring them over. Imagine that? 6 characters with all their needed stats maxed out and all the other little tricks you can do to max out your characters net gain.

I understand that doing any of this is a very slippery slope and yeah it kinda sucks knowing at any moment you could max yourself immortal. This is why I come up with my rule set. It allows my characters to have some flex so I can play around and at the same time keeps things in control for the most part.

For example. Maybe I want Minsc to try out "Dragon Breath" the halbred. My code would allow for 2 prof points to be spent but ONLY 2. Why? Because I could have just as easy put my points into that instead of Two Hand Weapons. Now, I would not be able to add say 5 points and max it because that could not have happend in the "real" game. Now, I understand this does give advantages because you can tailor your party to your particular needs at that time but it does not make your character a greek god with perfect stats.

There is a very fine line between Meta Gaming and Break Gaming. I try to walk the line as best I can.

Find the Infinity Engine Editor Pro (IEEP) toolset and you can remove the restrictions on the item. DLTCEP can also accomplish this, although it is slightly less intuitive. I think NearInfinity can also accomplish your goal.

It's probably just my playstyle, but I don't find the one time use things such as scrolls that useful, because there's only a limited amount of them. Point taken about Carsomyr, but that's only relevant for a fighter specialising in two handed swords. The staff of the magi is ok, but damage wise not even nearly the best choice.

UAI works better for Barbarians, I'd think. They'd be able to wear full plate armor - though this is mostly an early game advantage, by the time you get to ToB it's not really an issue - or he'd be able to wear Jan Jansen's robe, giving him an additional 25% damage reduction (which is more relevant to barbarians because they already get 20% DR from lvl 19). Also, he'd be able to wear the gauntlets of extraordinary specialization.

If I recall correctly you need to set your memorization of the "use any item" spell to 1. Then you start your game and choose your character. The character will have the use any item icon in his special ability button. Click on it and it will say character-use any item. Doing this will activate this ability for the character. Then save the game and go into shadow keeper again. Go into your new save game and remove the use any item special ability since you no longer need it and save again. Voila your character has use any item and it will not be taking up space in your special abilities bar.

A fighter with staff of the magi is game breaking. It's an infinite supply of invisibility potions. Smash, switch weapons, disappear, wait, switch weapons, smash, switch weapons . . . rinse and repeat as needed. You don't use it to whack bad guys, you use it to disappear after you whack bad guys.

As for the scrolls, there are so many that you find as random loot that can be useful to a fighter.

Seems to me there is no end to the ways you can break your game.

Read my last post if you want to understand where I am coming from. If you still don't then we just have a fundamental difference in the way and reasons we play. After taking everything else into consideration I overruled my previous ruling. Not, because I think ScarletNinja is going to turn Davos into a God but because it appears there might be unforseen advantages later in the game.

Now for something unrelated. Is Icewind Dale 2 like this game or is it more hack and slash like my other love Diablo?
