So I just picked up BG1 and BG2 from GOG and got everything installed with the BGT. I had been years since I last played and I forget most of pretty much everything. I was just wondering what was the strongest PC character that maintains is strength throughout the trilogy.

I plan on being in an all good party. Minsc, Dyanhier, Imoen, dwarf Cleric/fighter in the mines, and the paladin near ankheg nest. As well as the equivalents for BG2.

Well, that pretty much is based on personal preference and play style, although a half-elf ranger/cleric multi-class is generally considered very strong. Plus, that combo will give you access to all cleric and druid spells, which will fill in for the few things Yeslick (that's the dwarf F/C) cannot provide. Plus, in BG1, owing to the limited number of healing spells available, it's actually somewhat useful to have two characters capable of casting healing spells.

I'm not sure what you mean by "equivalents" in BG2. I mean, I guess Keldorn is pretty much the equivalent of Ajantis (at least they're both paladins), and Imoen and Minsc carry over. I'm not sure who is the equivalent of Dynaheir or Yeslick.

I choose poorly in words when saying equivalents. I meant the more good version of the NPC options available. Of whom they are I can not remember. Are there any strong good aligned mages in BG2 or will i have to dual class imoen? I played BG2 only once or twice so I don't recall.

Imoen already IS dual classed at the start of BG2. However, you lose her for a while in the beginning of the game, although immediately following that, Nalia is available, who is an adequate Imoen substitute. There is also Aerie available very early, although she is a multi-classed cleric-mage. So her rate of advancement will obviously be considerably slower. If you want a good aligned mage early on in BG1, Nalia is pretty much it (but she is perfectly servicable, so it's no big deal).
