General all-purpose recommendations thread. I'm looking for some recommendations, and will give a few myself. Here's one to start off:

Dead Space - 2 years old, I know. But I picked up this game on a whim recently (it's now only $20 new) and I loved it. I couldn't put it down until I beat it. Just masterful in every respect. The combat can get a little repetitive after a while, but still a ton of fun. Very excited for Dead Space 2 in a few months.

I'm looking to pick something up for this weekend, so let the recs begin. :)

I don't have a PS3, and haven't touched a PS since PS One, but people are telling me to get one to play Okami, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. They're pretty old, PS2 material, so they should be pretty cheap.

Couple quick recommendations of PS3 games that I thoroughly enjoyed:

Valkyria Chronicles - Great game, the combat is innovative and interesting. Story is good, not great, but engaging enough to make it enjoyable. Probably my favorite game on the PS3.

Demon's Souls - Not much story, but it's made up for by rich dungeons, customization and fun combat. There's nothing like squeezing through a dust filled cave and encountering a huge worm-maggot-type thing that fills up the whole passage. It's a hard game, with some platforming and good reflexes involved, but it is good.

Resonance of Fate - An action/strategy hybrid with fun combat. Don't buy it used; lots of defective discs went out. If you can get a good copy, it's very enjoyable, but I would go with the other two I suggested first as they're more stable.

All three of these have action components, which is normally out of my comfort zone, but they're all fun.

Edit- I would highly recommend Shadow of the Colossus, though there are much better PS2 games, it is quite fun and has a great plot twist.

PS3 vs. Xbox Debate... Let's just bury the hatchet and say each person prefers one over the other.

I just bought Army of Two 40th Day and absolutely hate compared to the first Army of Two game. I hate when developers think adding more crap to a game will make it better or changing how the controllers operate will improve game play. I dislike the changes made but I will still play it but will complain as I do so.

I prefer the Playstation 3 because it has more console-exclusive games I'm interested in (I could give 2 sh*ts about Halo) and a built-in Blu-Ray player. For me, that makes it superior.

I'm really interested in the Resistance games, as well as the Uncharted games. Both series are fairly cheap right now.

But the game I think I'm going to get next is Red Dead Redemption. I've heard nothing but stellar reviews about it. Anyone played it?

Yeah... it is a Rockstar game in good and bad. If you like their recent GTA sandbox style games then you will like this one too. But the side missions are repetitive as usual and the whole Mexico part (about one third) of the game feels like it is mostly filler content. But otherwise it was enjoyable.

Hmm...I think I may pass then. Not a fan of the GTA games, in any respect (except the box-cover art, but that's because I'm a graphic designer :) ).

Bayonetta, though that's not really a game, more like softcore pornography.

Also, I finally picked up Uncharted and it's SO DAMN GOOD.

And finnaly, if you have a PS3, get Heavy Rain. Picked it up not really knowing what to expect, and it's a top contender for being the best game i've ever played. I was totally absorbed.

I'll throw my recommendation in for Uncharted.

Erod was pretty much straight on with Red Dead Redemption, I only played a friend's copy for a short bit, but it felt like a western cowboys GTA. (I'm not a fan of GTA either, so I passed on it.)

If you get Uncharted make sure it is Uncharted 2. Uncharted 1 is ok but #2 is the bomb.

Even better: get both. As the second game is a sequel with the same cast it makes sense to play the original game first.

You are right but the 2nd Uncharted is the best game on the PS3 hands down.

Sonic's Ultimate Collection. A good load of classic Genesis games. Enough said.

I went out early this morning for the Black Friday deals on some PS3 games. I know some of the savings are not that big but when added up it was worth me getting up one hour earlier than normal. All games were purchased for $10 or less.

Kill Zone 2, Fall Out, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Rachet and Crank, MGS4, Uncharted: Drake's Fort....

I tried to pick up Gods of War game where it contain GoW I and II for $10 but I could not find it today.

    ---------- Added 0 hours, 0 minutes and 38 seconds later... ----------

How would you rate this game when compared to a CRPG like DAO or Fall Out?

I haven't played any of the Assassin Creed games; though I wanted to when I first read about it back when it was mentioned in one of the gaming mags. How would you rate the Assassin's Creed series?

I've only played the 2nd one, and it's cool. Really good fun.
