[IMG] I know this is totally sad, but I absoloutly cannot get past the final Irenicus battle in the Nine Hells. I have been working on it for about a month now and I have gotten nowhere. The only way I have figured out to actually hurt Irenicus is to have my character turn into the Slayer, but just as I am making significant headway, my character just dies, seemingly out of nowhere! I can't catch Irenicus in the act of casting a spell, and sometimes I am out of physical attack range. The farthest I have gotten is the point where Irenicus changes from the Slayer to his humanoid form, but I died very soon after. This is driving me totally insane, so someone please help me! Anyone have some hints, or tips?

A little more info please. Are you solo'ing or with a party. If the latter, who's in it and at what levels? What's your PC (class and level)? What tactics and strategies have you tried? Any mods?

Most of us are willing to offer advice, but we need this info.

Well if you take down all of Jonny's little daemonic mates first he'll run off behind you soemwhere and then you get him on his own to kill which isnt so hard. (This happened for me anyway, both times ive been at that part).
What you need is all the buff spells cast on your party (protection from evil, bless, haste, chant, haste, haste etc.) and then you need to just go at all the daemons full force. If you have anyone with holy smite give them it as many times as you can and keep casting that and nemesis bolt. Once you killed them and Jonny's lookalike (I think he casts mislead or something) he'll go away from the battle behind you, near the entrance to pit 3. Heal your party before you go after him, and then just go for a full on attack and hope for the best.
Failing that the dificulty setting ba sometimes gets quite appealing.

Just hack away at him. I have always found that battle to be quite easy even without spells and potions.

It shouldn't be too hard. Just get some summons to buff the demons for a while, then hack'n'slash them to bits one-by-one. Once they're down, use True Sight or similar, and let the summons deal with Ire's spells.

    Watch and enjoy. :p

i thought this battle was very easy

i just had keldorn in my party and minsc and my char as a lvl 23 assasin fight the demons
and let keldorn cast a true sight which removed all of irenicus his invisibility etc

then some breaches and all the other spell protection removers and he died very fast

my party was edwin earie jaheira keldorn minsc me as assasin

Thank you all for your input, but I have already tried the hack and slash method, and it hasn't worked much for me. My character is a level nine (I think, highest level, I used cheats) enchanter, and my party consists of Minsc, Anomen, Imoen, Aerie, and Jaheria. Usually I start by using the time stop spell, and imprisoning all of Jon's little demon friends. Any monsters Jon summons I also imprision.

I think he means he can cast level 9 spells. If he's casting time stop, his character level is obviously well over 9. I think you get the ability to cast level 9 spells when your mage hits character level 19 or 20. However, in an unmodded game without ToB installed, I did not think you could cast level 9 spells (other than from scrolls).

Yeah, I meant that I can cast level nine spells.
Here is some more info, if it helps:
After imprisoning the demons, I use my mages to summon mosnters and djinnis throughout the battle to keep Jon busy. Meanwhile, my Character transforms into the slayer and starts to beat the stuffing out of Irenicus. When he reaches "Near Death", I fire off 9 Rings of the Ram (6 party members + mage simulacrums) missiles simultaneously. Initially I thought that my PC's death was due to the slayer change, but even when my character did not change at all, or changed back when my character feels 'their control slipping', but I still died mysteriously. I also thought that the protagonist might have to kill Jon, so I used the Shapechange spell to turn into a greater wolfwere, but no damage was inflicted. The only thing that seems to hurt Irenicus is the Slayer's weapons and the Ring of the Ram. I have no mods, but would it help to get some? I don't know exactly what a mod is.

No, you don't need mods, and there are certainly weapons other than slayer form that can hit Irenicus. What weapons are you're party members using? It is possible that Jon is firing off an Absolute Immunity Spell, or maybe a Protection from Magical Weapons spell that is preventing your attacks from getting through. Heck though, 9 rings of the ram, which each hit for about 20 points of damage - that should be enough!

wel i killed him yesterday and it suprised me how long he had the near death status

but i think u should use spells like spellstrike etc and then u might even be ablwe to hit him
cause the daamge u do with the slayer is probably the cold damage

I'm using all kinds of magical weapons - I'll have to check exactly which ones. I have a spell that dispels all of his protections, so I have no idea why he won't die.

What I'm really anxious to know is, why does my protagonist keep dying mysteriously?

That's prob'ly because there is a time limit on the Slayer transformation. Stay as the Slayer too long, and you die. The game gives you a warning message before this is going to happen...and you better change back then.

If you are NOT the slayer, the only reason for sudden, mysterious deaths are Finger of Death/ Chromatic Orb/ Wail of the Banshee...these are the annoying spells responsible for your high mortality rate mate. ;) Spell Trap/Spell Deflection/Spell Turning/Spell Immunity:Necromancy...they all go a long way in preventing this.

Thank you all so much! I finally did it! Extra thanks to Faraaz, because I couldn't have made it w/o "Spell Trap".
