When do you go to firkaag to kill him? I mean I know you need to talk to a guy in the CC to get the quest but what level do you need to be if you want to kill every monster you've found there and with which party member, equipment will you take?

    thx

    Chris

It is definately easier after returning from the Underdark. By then your characters are fairly high level and should be able to take care of business pretty easily.

I tried before and got slammed. I came back after and it wasn't hard. Part of this may be that my tactics improved while away. When I replay BG2, I will try him before.

I like hard fights. when your party is at lvl 10 you may be able to kill him with right tactics. But is is very hard. First time, face Firkraag only when your party is level 14. As weapons you need the Dragonslyer sword and/or halberd and use spell triggers with magic missiles after you casted lower resitance on him, also use Draw Upon Holy Might and some strength increasing potions.

Important: After talking to the guy in CC, you can just do his quest. You hav eto do many things and only in the end you meet Firkraag. You have to free a girl and you only have to kill a mage for that. You can tell Firkraag to come back later and he will say he will await your return with joy. You then can do all other quests, rescue imoen and everything you want and come back to kill Firkraag.

Remember, the sooner you kick Firkraag, the earlier you have the best two-handed sword dor paladins and a great armor for fighters.

Clearing everything out except Firekraag himself shouldn't be too hard even before the Underdark. Also gives you some good fire resistance equipment and dragon slaying sword etc. Some good fights, but with a balanced party you'll be fine.

I don't know how you intend to play, but I would suggest that you make sure that the party you take into chapter 4 and 5 are the ones you intend to keep. That way you don't end up dumping a high level character to pick up your favourites afterwards. Except Imoen of course if you want to keep her.

In order to kill Firekraag I took 2 mages, do spread them out to avoid any one thing hitting both of them, to cast protective spells and to breach defenses. Minsc, Jahera & Anomen provided plenty bashing power together with my Monk.

Usual haste and protections but I didn't use any summoned creatures. In Chapter 6 you really won't need to, he might be tough, but falls over just the same.

Again as far as equipment goes, you'll not be struggeling for quality armour and weaponry, so you don't need anything exceptional there like Crom.

Bash, bash, bash some more. Great feeling when he goes down. Remember improved haste doubles attacks, and he aint too good with electricity.

You can basically face him with any party and any weapons, but he gets relatively easier at higher level.

Try casting a few lower resistances on him, then use all of the wands of lightning of have on him. Works wonders. Also he will fall as easily to a finger of death as any other, provided you bust his protections and use a greater malison.

  9. -Good ranged weapons, good ammo.
-Considering his THACO, armor doesn't do much, because he virtually hits you every time with his claws.
-Ranged weapons are the way to go, with summons as fodder.
-Don't forget Fire Resistance, plenty of that.
-Always keep your HP above 55 or so.
-Lower Resistance, then pound him with lightning bolts and cold spells. Keep in mind that fire is simply useless.

    Happy dragon hunting!

First thing I did was surround him with Monster Fodder (Wyvern's, Spiders) and three of my melee fighters.

Had two mages cast Lower Resistance as this is cumulative with no save, and also cast Breach Spells. Even magic missiles will work after the Lower Resistance has been cast. It did for me.

The important thing is to surround the dragon with as many Monsters and fighters as possible because Firkraag will be distracted and continually turn around to try and hit someone and rearely gets a hit in.

Firkraag went down so quickly that I just sat at my comp with my mouth wide open. The battle lasted less than ten seconds for me.

I killed him first time last night.

Bit easier than I thought. I buffed up to the teeth and had my main fighter with the dragon sword. We all surrounded him and used the tactics above. My main fighter then had a spell cast on him - I went to the inventory screen to see what is was (held and greater malaison (4 berries!) when I came back from the screen he was laying down dead - I did not see the killing blow. I did not hit him once with the dragon sword.

I am level 13 but am still in chpt 3 trying to do all the quests.

[IMG] I killed him in chapter 2, or was it 3...
None the less I did all the quests early and was on lvl15 before even going to spell hold, but u can do this with any mage and single warrior. I summonned lesser fire elementals (5) and caste fire protection on my warrior, edwin and myself (im a mage) and just caste magic missle with the mages and killed it with the warrior and elles. Rather easy but took some time for me to figure out.
But I am interesting, and i have much untapped power

[IMG] Use your thief to plant some traps around him, cast spells on your party. And bash in...
Me and Minsc moved in for frontal butt-kicking, including my simulacrum partner (used Vhailor's helm for that)... one delicious detail, i used my simulacrum clone to attack him from south, while keeping my party sided towards north, this way most of his attacks were towords my clone. That gave me the time to do some extra butt-kicking.
Ohh, and i changed Jaheirs's shield to the Dragon shield.

a solo cleric can take firkaag at lvl 15-17 i think. (i tried it at lvl 20)

1 protection from evil 10' radius
    3 aerial servants
    1 gate
    1 farsight

summon the aerial servants near the doorway, cast protection on yourself and them. cast gate near firkaag (pit fiend is immune to firkaags melee attack), move back. cast farsight.

wait till firkaag is near death. send the aerial servants (have a great THACO) to finish the job. - and then have them kill the pit fiend (but it gives no xtra xp :( )

Frikraag is VERY easy to beat up.
I went to the windsapear hills right after the slave quest in CC. When i came to frikraag i rememberd that i had yoshimo and his snares/special snares, so i put the snares all around the dragon and i dualled and cancelled (this is the way to get infinite snares) after 5 times of putting all traps i summoned a few animals, sen them front him and sent my main char to talk to it. When he turned hostile, all the traps catched him and he died almost INSTANTLY!!!
I did this with all the dragons and it WORKS!!! Too bad yoshimo betrays u. :(

    You need:

    - One spell caster with a lv7 spell
    - One dragon
    - One or two frontliners and/or some summons to keep Firkraag busy

Memorize one Finger of Death, and as many Lower Resistances and Greater Malisons as you can.

    - Cast all the Greater Malisons
    - Cast all the Lower Resistances
    - Cast the finger of death

Mix it up well and you have one dead dragon ;) :D.

[IMG] All you really need is masses of fodder. Summon as many as possible, get up a bunch of warriors with powerful weapons and lot's of potions, and start hacking him. Just use all your resources and it makes the fight extremely easy.

The dual/cancel way may work, but I think it is not fun to play it that way...it's rather low, weak and probably something to regret afterwards. Setting traps is fine, but not this way.
Beating him 'the normal way' is rather cool, fun and it gives a nice warm feeling to know that you managed to beat this evil &^*%#$!
Excuse me for telling you my opinion.

I used a lot of greater malison and lower resistance etc, too. Worked great, but I tested Greater Malison and it seems it is not cumulative :( Bad Karma!
