I recently got back into Baldur's Gate 2 SoA and I started up a sorcerer and picked my spells and got into the game and couldn't find out how to use them. When I went to my spell book on the first page it said somthing like I can cast 0/6 spells. How do I cast the spells that I chose? Forgive my noobish question but I've never played with this type of character before.

[IMG] You need to rest. When you start a game it counts as having a character exhausted of spells. From then on you simply select the casting icon and pick what you want to cast.

Wizards get memory slots per level indicating preparation of spells, once used it's gone.

Sorcerers get a limit of how many spells per day per level they can cast, ensuring versatility.

aka A wizard has 4 lvl 1 slots, two go to magic missile, two go to identify. As such in combat once the magic missiles are used they cannot be used again. A sorcerer can cast 4 lvl 1 spells, in combat he can cast the magic missile three times then the identify once on the nifty belt he picked up.

It works a bit different from a mage. With a mage, let's say you can cast three level 1 spells. You then have to choose which of the spells in your spellbook you memorise. Let's say you've learned (from scrolls you've found or bought) magic missile, identify, chromatic orb, summon monster (level 1) and knock. You decide to memorise 1 identify and 2 magic missiles, and hope those will suffice for whatever situation you're going to be in.

Now, sorcerers don't learn from scrolls - when they go up a level, they get to choose 1 or more spells which then go into your magic toolbar, the same way memorised spells do for a mage.
Say you have learned exactly the same spells as your mage, and are able to cast three of them. However, rather than being limited to 1 x identiy and 2 x magic missiles, you could cast any three spells from your selection. So you could cast idenify three times, or knock once, magic missile once and chromatic orb once. You still have a limit to the number of level 1 spells you can cast, but they can be any of the spells from your selection, which makes sorcery a lot more versatile than wizardry.

It also means that you can choose spells that are quite hard to find on scrolls, like Mordenkainens Sword (my favourite way to deal with mind flayers!)

As a couple of people have pointed out, you need to rest first. Which is sort of inconsistent, since a wizard starts off with spells already memorised.

BTW, what spells did you select?
