If you don't have a healer in the party you need to rest 8 hours in order to heal a single hitpoint, so 16 days rest are needed to heal 48 hitpoints.
Disabling the "rest until healed" option should reduce the resting times to 8 hours.

You need 8 hours of rest to heal an amount of HP, equall to the characters level.

A level 4 character heals 4 hp per 8 hours of rest, and so on.

I always thought 8 hours healed ONE hit point no matter what level the character

Considering the fact that there is no time limit to complete the game in, the 'rest until healed' option isn't necessarily a bad one, although I prefer resting at 8 hours at a time. Resting for 10 days straight doesn't seem like such a good idea to be honest lol :p

A neat little trick I found was that if you equip a damaged party member with a regeneration item, they will usually regenerate up to full hit points after 8 hours - which is especially helpful during the early stages of the game where all the healing in the world doesn't seem to be enough.

    thanx

thanx for quick help guys, but i am still kinda confused... i already finish the whole game few years ago. that time i had the whole party totally wounded and wizards exhausted and the time wasnt longer than than 16 HOURS, few times 24 HOURS. but gosh now its counting on DAYS!!! to rest any amount (8-23) of days sounds like totally nonsense to me... :(
i forgott to say, trying to play it only with one character! doubt has to have influence on that.
and i know the time is not always essencially but, after harder fights for examply when i want to collect things from the dead bodies its not possible! and also when u re in the ice temple, there is an optional quest to rescue prisoners, which being killed each morning one by one. resting after tough fight with guards outside its not possible to finish it...
    thanx

if you do not have a healer in your party, ie if you are not one yourself in your case, you have long resting hours, try to find an item with just a little bit of regeneration, or else you can take a few levels of priest and you can get a few buffs as well

If resting for days sounds like totally nonsense to you, just don't command your character to do this instead of resting for 8 hours.

If you click "rest" with "rest until healed" option enabled you actually give the following commands:

    1. The healers memorize only healing spells
    2. The party rests for 8 hours
    3. The healers cast their healing spells
    4. Repeat the procedure (1. - 3.) until no one is injured anymore
    5. Have the healers rememorize the spells you've assigned before giving the rest command
    6. Rest for 8 hours

This works quite well with the balanced parties IWD2 was designed for, but it's obvious that this takes an eternity if you don't have a healer in the party.

If you equip a regeneration item like the "periapt of wound closure" (you should already have found it in the area where Oswald's airship crashed) you'll be able to heal a lot of HP even in 8 hours. Another option to heal HP are potions and temples which offer very cheap "cure light wounds" spells.

[IMG] perhaps not relevant to you, but wearing regenerating items while traveling can save you needing to rest.
