[IMG] I suspect I'm not the only one having this problem, but I can't find a solution using the search function. I had almost finished Baldur's gate when I installed the Sword Coast expansion, and since then the whole game has gone down the rabbit hole. Weird floating naked fat people drift through, and every single character is acting - well - out of character. Adjantis is now some seriously annoying perky female (and I thought Branwen was bad!), Imoen seems to have switched personalities and voices with Kivan, and a lot of the NPCs are fuzzy pixel clouds. I even tried restarting the game, but the problem persists.

I got the CD's in a factory sealed box, so I doubt it's a virus. Is it my OS? I'm running Vista - which I hate.

Any idea of how to fix it? It stopped being amusing a long time ago.

    Have you installed any mods?

    Just the plain vanilla games.

    OK, now.

I uninstalled both games, and then reinstalled them, and now everything's back to normal. I kept all my saves, thank goodness.

But what the heck was all that weirdness? I didn't mind the naked fat people - they were sort of amusing - but if Ajantis has said "Somebody needs a hug!" or "Cheer up old grumpypants!" one more time, I would have sent him off into battle unarmored.

Branwen's personality change was for the better, though. She developed a French accent and kept complaining about flatulence. But after whoever it was who possessed Ajantis got exorcised, her old personality is almost endearing.

I SWEAR I am not making this up: I'm old, but I'm not freaking senile. Has anyone else ever encountered this bug before?

Not without any mods installed as far as I know... I've seen a few posts here that described issues like that, but it was usually due to various mod conflicts or wrong installation order. If you haven't installed any mods, patching the game incorrectly (applying the official patch to a pre-patched game release) might do it too. If you haven't done that either, I don't really know... some data corruption, possibly.

    Whoops! I spoke too soon

[IMG] Now the whole damned game crashes whenever I try to go from one area to another. Instead of loading the new area, I get a black screen, and immediately returned to my desktop.

    Aaarghhhh!

I know that patching or installing any expansions (or mods, for that matter) in the middle of a game is always trouble..big trouble. Your save games may be corrupt and/or may be incompatible with the new configuration of the game.

I seriously reccomend you to restart a new, fresh game after a clean and correct installation.

Try patching the game; that might resolve the issue.

As for the other issue it sounds like the voice of other game characters were written to incorrectly to your saved game. Probably a issue with Vista if anything.
