How the Game Decides a Character's Favorite Weapon

It just hit me, (I've been wondering about this for some time) I *think* the game will list a character's "favorite weapon" based on the weapon that was used to kill the creature that goes in "The Most Powerful Vanquished" slot. It's the only reasoning I can make out of why the game says this weapon is somebody's favorite weapon. Any ideas?

 

I don't think so, because I had viconia kill Kangaxx (as the most powerful) with Crom Feayr, and it says her favorite is Flail of Ages. I think it depends what weapon you have been having for the longest time in your weapon slot.

My main character has long sword (and he's been using those for quite some time, different ones though)

Another idea could be that the most kills with a given weapon would make it the characters favorite, but then again, viccy killed more with Crom than with Flail of Ages

i think it relies on either proficiency and/or amount of damage caused by the fav weapon. if ya dont like ur char's fav weapon, jus stick one on them that u do like and try to get level ups while ur usin it.

It is indeed the weapon with wich you gained the most of the experience (the amount of experience per character can also be found by Information)

 

The time spent wielding the particular weapon must be the answer. In my opinion at least...

 

I just started a new game last night and checked out one of my saves to try to verify this. I figured, being such a new game, I could actually remember who killed which monster with what. The weapon used to kill "most powerful vanquished" theory held true for all but my PC. Additionally, he has something listed in favourite spell despite the fact that he has yet to cast any spells.

 

I'm thinking along the lines with Headbanger. Not neccessarily most powerful vanquished like I thought, but the most experience that weapon has done for your character. The time issue is sketchy, as I have used a weapon for a relatively short time but it becomes my favorite (perhaps becuase it's later in the game and I am killing more harder enemies with it, thus racking up more experience with it.)

But then in my first game I remember it saying that my Monk's favorite weapon was a sling. I was like huh???? I used sling rarely, fists mostly. So I don't get it...

 

While browsing through the infinity explorer a while ago I noticed that if you look at your saved game files that under statistics it has a spot that says favourite weapons. I think it lists all the weapons the PC or your NPC's have every used. Next the weapon name there is a column called IIRC usage count. I believe that it probably uses the weapon that you have used the most often as your favourite weapon.

 

My monk definately did not use his sling more often than his fists. This all doesn't make sense.

 

It may be that the "favorite weapon" award doesn't count fists, since they can't be equipped.

 

True, but I just checked my game and it says Mazzy's favorite weapon is the Short Bow of Gesen when she just got the thing! This is really baffling me.

 

Okay, I just looked through every single one of my saved games while looking at it in Infinity Explorer at the same time. In everyone the favourite weapon WAS always the one that had the most uses counted.

And it does indeed count how many times you use your fists.

What exactly do you mean by "uses"? Does that mean 1 use is every time the sword swings a roll is made? Or what?

That still doesn't hold up for why Mazzy's favorite is the Short Bow of Gesen though.

 

I wonder if it's something odd like how many times you equip the weapon for use. That would make bows show up more than usual, because the weapon gets equipped every time you add or change arrows--especially the Gesen and Tansheron bows, which you have to equip a few times in order to switch back and forth between automatic missiles and specialty arrows.

It would also explain why fists have a usage number but it's inappropriately small--they would only get counted when you highlighted them to hit somebody who was blue.

I have no idea whether this is actually the case or not; it's just a guess. (-: Another possibility is that it counts how many times you take a shot with the weapon, but if the total is too high it wraps around, hence leaving a character who uses one weapon almost exclusively with an odd second choice as the favorite weapon.

 

I have no idea what exactly uses are but fists do not have an inappropriately small number of uses since my monk had over 50 000 uses.

I was assuming it would be how often they are swung or fired so some bows would have a large amount of uses in a short time. Though I must admit that I really don't know what I am talking about anymore.
