[IMG] Just wondering because I can't get to the bottom of this...
I've been trying to equip Minsc with Azuredge in one and Daystar in the other hand, but can never get it to work.
What baffles me is that both of them are single-handed weapons and I always set Azure's ability to Melee before trying to equip Daystar in the other hand. But no matter how much I try and no matter which combos I use, I can never equip both.

Is there a rule against equipping an axe and a long sword? Or am I missing something else?

[IMG] I think Azure edge is a missle weapon (throwing axe)? If it is, I don't think you can have another weapon in your other hand. I tried to have Misc do that with any weapon and AzureEdge...and it wouldn't take.

I believe it's only a rule about equipping a melee weapon with another weapon that *can* be a missile weapon.

I guess having a missile weapon and a melee weapon equipped at the same time was too much of a headache, so they disallowed it for the magical throwing axes that have a dual personality as well...

[IMG] Blackthorne - Yet another simultaneous post!

There is an axe in the game that you can designate it as thrown or held (although I can't remember its' name. But Azuredge is specifically a thrown axe, so I don't think you can just hold it.

IIRC (and as Taluntain pointed out above) Azuredge is also one of those dual personality melee/throwing axes...

That's odd...I don't remember getting a choice for that with Azuredge in my game...Only for that other axe. Does BG2 have the weapon randomizer like IWD?

The second time I played IWD, some of the weapons changed from what they were in the first game (bastard swords became TH, etc...)

<shrug> I dunno, but I do remember trying what Tal above did... Right clicking on the weapon to choose its ability and selecting melee so that I could try to dual wield it... No success for me either.

But I mainly used Azuredge for Vampires, so the Shield of Harmony was a great complement (protection from Domination).

[IMG] Yea, as you figured it out, Azure can be thrown or used in melee, as you choose.
It seems that none of the items with a "double personality" can be complemented by another weapon.
    Damn!

[IMG] Due to the options I'd make sure Azure edge was in the primary weapon slot.

I know, I know, it can't be done because of some p&p rule somewhere probably, but it just doesn't make sense not to be able to use a one handed throwing weapon with the off hand equiped. Though that would be kinda like walking and chewing gum at the same time, and for Minsc, that might be difficult.

Hey, here's an idea that might make it work. Only allow it with those dual life weapons like Alzdudge. Have the game automatically switch it to melee when you have to engae in melee combat. That would get rid of AC penalties and the wierd idea of using ranged weapons in melee. Now the only problem is the animation when attacking with dual weapons when one is range and one isn't.

It can be done in P&P, having a weapon in one hand that is for melee and another in the free hand that can be used for melee or a throwing weapon. The player just lets the DM know ahead of time what he's using that throwing weapon for (either throw it or use it up close).

Once again, another example of game companies thinking the little things don't mean that much.

"Oh, why add that to the code since it's only 1 combination with that particular weapon."

    Syl...

And I had figured they always had a good excuse. Well, that's certainly nice to know. Just a little extra effort there would make dual wielding a lot better allowing for ease of missle weapon use.

[IMG] At the moment, I have Minsc equiped with the Azuredge and the Skullcrusher+4 (mace) and never had a problem. I hadn't even thought twice about it until I saw the message posted. Heh, nor was I aware that it could be used as a missile weapon

    [IMG] I'm afraid I don't believe you...

First, Skullcrusher is +3 not +4.
Second, I just made an attempt to do just as you said: Minsc with Azuredge and Skullcrusher; no dice...

Unless of course you mean Minsc has them both in the main hand (different quick-weapon slots)... I now note that you don't quite say that he dual wielded them in your post above... But of course that is not what this topic is about.

Like I said, dual wielding. Skullcrusher+3 (so I was off a number, blow me you uppity f!ck) in his main hand and the Azuredge in the off hand to be more precise, and it works very well, and I'll be damned if he's throwing it. That does relate to the topic of dual weilding with the Azuredge and I threw my two cents in on the whole missile gig. Now are you the only over analytical one here, or is this the "respect" you show to newcomers?

Well, in the fashion of a true ass, I mistook the Azuredge for the Stonefire. I can only assume it's because they are sold next one another at the Copper Coronet. Heh, I still don't like your attitude.

[IMG] My apologies if I gave any offense, that was not my intent...

I tried to state my beliefs in a matter-of-fact manner and not be accusatory in any way. I see that I didn't achieve that in your eyes. Again, I apologize. :(
