Are there any? I've been looking around a bit and all I could find was never free, and never seemed to work properly either. I simply need some basic tools that will allow me to split some large video files without making it unbelievably complicated like having to choose 15 output options, codecs, sizes, etc. Nothing I've tried would actually just do the job and present the output in exactly the same size and format as the original.

Years ago I remember having a program called "AVI splitter" or something like that, which did exactly this, but the damn thing made the sound in all the clips it spit out go out of sync with the picture in longer clips. And I didn't notice this until half a year later and a number of burned clips.

I deleted it in a fury back then and haven't found anything since.

VirtualDub maybe, not sure if this is the kind of program you're looking for, but it's the only one that comes to my mind.

If you are talking about Mpeg1 and Mpeg2 files, try www.videoredo.com. I have been using it for about 2 years now and it works. No bells and whistles though. It costs $50 now. Was only $30 when I got it. It does have a free try-out. Also check out videohelp for a LOT of advice.

Ah, yes, VirtualDub... heard of it before, but completely forgotten. I think it might do the trick. Thanks for the other link as well.

Yea, it's fine for small movies. But anything larger takes forever to even open...

IrfanView used to be just a thumbnail and pic viewer, but it has come a long way since then. It now includes the editing ability, no matter the extension. Found its great for anything that requires you have to have a specific base system.
Another piece of software is Gtk+Gimp, which can take any 2D pic and you can make it appear 3D, such is the software of some peoples choice in making figures for CivIII.
