This is the first time I've ever had him in my party and actually go through a quest with him, and we just got the Nether Scroll.

At what point does the sex-change occur? (I thought it occurs right away, and I actually don't want him full-time in my party so any info on speeding the process would be nice)

It's not very long. It takes longer for him to get turned back.

If I recollect, it's actually about 6 days game time. Turning back takes a LOT longer.

It only happens if you give the right response when you get the scroll. There are two dialog options. I don't remember exactly what they say, but one option is to say, "Will you be using the Nether Scroll to help the group?" While the other says, "The Nether Scroll is group treasure". If you picked the first, things proceed normally, if you pick the second, nothing happens.

Several days before the sex change occurs, Edwin should start mentioning he's getting somewhere with the Nether Scroll. If you've had the Scroll for a while so far and nothing has happened, you probably selected the wrong option and nothing is ever going to happen.

Dang I think I picked the "its group treasure" dialog option! Snap I wanted his high-horse attitude to be humbled! Oh well, I can always make Minsc kill him. :D

I believe it's one of the things that those patches can correct.

Would you recomend having him go through the sex change? I'm playing an evil party and I wanna know if I should let that go through.

If you are planning on keeping Edwin in your party I'd let the sex change play out. By the end you will have Edwin more upgraded, and more lethal.

Edwin should undergo this trial in any event. He gains xp, a bonus to his saving throws. But what I find most intriguing and worthwhile... after he is changed into a woman he doesnt weave his magics in the same way all the other spellcasters do. No more waving of hands to cast a spell, only the intoning (?) of his incantations. Plus he doesnt move like others anymore, but will, from time to time, start to glide or hover instead of walking. I think thats interesting.
