[IMG] I know I'm not the only one who's squeezed as much out of player generation as I possibly can, legitimately, that is. I just can't suppress the urge to brag up my tank of a fighter. I've imported him from BG1. He's a dwarven fighter by the name of Gimli, as unoriginal as that is, I wanted to model him after Tolkien's dwarf. After a tome of strength from BG1 he has a str of 19, dex of 17, con of 19, int & wis at 7, and a cha of 9. I carelessly hurl him into any fray and he usually emerges nearly unscathed. Wielding the Frostreaver and Flail of Ages, Proficiencies-- axe-5 flail-2 and dual wield at 2, I think... Heh, nots to be f!cked with.

I'm quite fond of the monk I created from scratch for BG2. I named him Monco after Eastwood's character in The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. He has 18 str, 18 dex, 18 con, 3 int (adjusted to 2 after dream sequence), 18 wis and 10 cha. With 3 or 4 attacks/round and -8 THAC0 using the Celestial Fury, he's a mean machine, to say the least.

[IMG] WTH? I can't believe you guys would call a retarded character great! Inetlligence of below 10?? That monk would die withing seconds of the first brain suck!

Look at my character instead, Elven Ranger with 19 Str, 20 Dex, 17 Con, 11 Int, 17 Wis, and 9 Char.

At least I boosted my Wisdom and made my Intelligence acceptable! Oh, and by the way these rolls were completely legit and unedited save for the tomes I actually found and after deducting 1 point of wisdom because of the dream sequence.

Man I can't imagine dying from the first Illithid brain-suck.

Come on, an intelligence of 11 isn't that good either.

[IMG] Well, at least it's average, and doesn't smell so much like minimum-maximising.

My human fighter/mage has 18/93 str, 18 dex, 18 con, 18 int, 10 wis, 9 chr. These are my initial stats. I was lucky to roll the proper numbers in 3 minutes. :D

I called the character Achilles Highward.

One way to avoid the maximising/minimising thing may be to follow the style in Torment. So low intelligence can be a hindrance in certain situations, like being unable to offer any solution to a problem other than threatening to bash heads or being ripped off without knowing it.

Here is Grubs chance to mingle with the regulars and your chance to meet a true brave warrior!

Perhaps you've heard of his tales and journey in the BG2 Online Solution, if not, I suggest you do!

    Have a taste of excellence:

    Grub
    Half-Orc, Barbarian

    STR: 19
    DEX: 18
    CON: 19
    INT: 14
    WIS: 13
    CHA: 18

Legit rolls. Charisma was "maxed" down to 3 but due to his ugly nature as a Half-Orc, it was justified. His 18 Charisma is due to a ring he wears, which has helped in in the arts of socialization and ellegance to the surprise of many nobles, Grub is more accepted than them sometimes!

I bet Grub would be a killing machine if he was a Kensai instead.

[IMG] What are you smoking. Like a half orc barbarian isn't a power gameing character for being a fighter. 19 strength, 18 dexterity, 19 constitution? Seems like power gaming to me. You can't find a much better character for a fighter. Don't kid yourself. But I look down on you not, cause believe me, I like powerfull characters too;]

I have many games played by me all at the same time using different characters. I have a similar barbarian in one game. Yeah he is powerful in melee combat. He is using the flail of age +3 and long sword of the rose +3. So he actually has > 18 charisma. With the boot of speed, he is fast, fast, fast.

One glitch is that there seems not so many good chain armors than the plate ones in BG2.

[IMG] This is how i think when i "make myself" in BG2.
Why "waste" points in Strength and Charisma? There is a ring that gives 18 in cha. There are (always) belts and other things that gives 18+ str. Period. So in BG2 i have (with equip): 21str, 18dex, 15con(after dream), 18 int, 18wis, and 18cha. Why aim lower??!! Without gear i have 9str and 9 cha. This works well in my book.
Me as a Swashbuckler with sword of roses (or other +3 sword) and celestial fury, lvl 23, -10 in defense and so forth makes a pretty awesome sight. ROFL, those poor Adamantite Golems really dont stand a chance, heck they hardly even move! Got to love Celestial Fury!

[IMG] It's funny. I read post after post about how powerful and impressive everybody "thinks" their characters are.

Yet there is no on-line battle arena for all to put their gold and reputation on the line to back up their claims.

A shame really, I would so enjoy watching and humbly participating with my Kensai/Mage (Anorath).

I wonder how that might go, hmmm. Probably something like this:

    1. Battle against Grub:

Grub runs at Anorath grunting and snorting, his terrible breath leading the way.

Anorath realizing that if he doesn't do something quick, he's going to become Orc chow casts a spell to protect himself (stone skin) to buy the time he needs to prepare the proper incantation.

Grub being, shall we say, less than intelligent, keeps trying to hit Anorath with his barbaric club. Never realizing that he is not even scratching Anorath's cloak.

Anorath tiring of this animalistic display decides to end it, waves hands in his trademark style and sends the poor beast to the center of the Earth for all eternity (Imprisonment).

    Sorry Syl.. :(

    2. Battle against Monco:

Monco the Monk bows to Anorath in a show of respect. Anorath, being the gentleman he is, bows back.

Monco and Anorath start circling the arena staring intently at one another trying to psyche each other out.

Monco initiates the battle and prepares to attack with his patented and devastating punch (quivering palm).

At the same time Anorath begins his incantation. He moves his hands mystically and chants lowly to himself.

All of a sudden, the area around Anorath seems to stand still, as if time itself has been stopped (stop time).

Anorath quickly goes to work on Monco, slashing at him with two swords at a time.

A helpless Monco just stands there taking blow after blow until he is nearly dead.

The spell wears off and time again begins to move forward.

Monco, realizing he is almost dead drinks a potion of healing. Unfortunately for Monco, it's too little, too late.

Anorath has beaten and battered poor Monco and he has not even broken a sweat.

Anorath, having respect for Monco, withdraws his attack, bows to the monk and helps him to his corner.

    Sorry Beorn.. :(

    HeHeHe :D

I'm just kidding. I was just having fun.

I'm at work and I'm bored.

But you gotta admit, it would be fun to pit our characters against one another. :)

[IMG] Hmm.. You certainly have quite some scrolls in your sleeves Immoral :) Not to mention that Grub probably has weapons that cut through your Stoneskin (Flail of the Ages just to name one), and that Monco would reach you and at least hit you once before you can finish casting Time Stop (casting time of 9, no ?). But it sounds cool if you don't think it through, I have to admit :)

Btw, wasn't TeamBG making a Pit-like addon for BG2 ? Or did CuCho said they wanted to make it for BG1, but never got to it because of the.. problems they had ? Hmm, never mind :)

Nevermind protection from any spells that imprison or mess with the mind and a lovely dagger that dispels magic.

    Kensi/Mage fodder more like it!

[IMG] I know. I was just trying to get a rise out of Syl and Beorn.

As for the weapons that cut through my Stone Skins, I would assume that we entered the arena with normal weapons, to make things more...reasonable.

Besides, I didn't want to write a book, just poke a little fun at a couple of obviously awesome charcters. ;)

And I said I was just kidding.

Ah, but if they can't have magic weapons, why can you cast off of scrolls? Here lies the problem with death match like play. There would have to be a lot of rules set in advance as to what could and could not be used. Also need to go at it for at least 3 times, because I'm sure Grub could best Xalen on any given day, and Xalen could best Grub as well. Players would need to go at it for a few rounds to see which one was really better. Though I'm sure if we really wanted to, some of us could just go at it in multiplayer mode online in a King of Sorcerer's Place Tournament or something of the sort.

You would all get your buts kicked from a half orc fighter/thief backstabbing your arse. (how is it possible to BACKstab in to the arse?) :)

Barbarian is immune to backstab though.
Stealth on. Snares to the ground. Wait...
Strike from somewhere with a bottle of haste. :)

Well, there is a flaw in your words...

Barbarians are NOT immune to all backstab, or at least they SHOULDN'T be. They ARE, but not to any rogues 4 levels higher than them. Thus a 14th level rogue could backstab a 10th level barbarian. Sure, you aren't likely to come across that many rogues THAT high in BGII, but it is a misconception that should end come NWN. Just HAD to say that.

"When you think yourself invincible, then do the silent blades come."

    And,

"Those who watch their backs meet death from the front."
