Ice Storm (Evocation)

The first time I played BG2, I played as a Specialist Mage (Invoker) and the Level 4 spell I selected was Ice Storm. Now, I have been all over Amn but I have been unable to find that spell on any scroll, unless I use SK. Does anyone know where I can get that spell? No one seems to sell it and no npc, enemy or not, has it on them! That spell is real great, deals a lot of damage and I think it also freezes people like the Petrification spell, and if the person is hit again, he shatters. Has anyone come across this spell scroll in BG2?

 

You can find it in the shadow thief guild. It is sold by the female theif.

 

i think i got one from the spell store in waukeen's promanade

 

i dont think its in waukeen's promenade.. checked there.. even in ribalds shop.. ill go check the shadow thiefs... thanx

 

Or otherwise maybe in the spell store above the Inn at Waukeens.

But one thing you have to explain: Why do you also want a scroll of the spell? For another mage?

HEadbanger: Perhaps he is playing through it the 2nd or 3rd time.

I've checked spellstore above the inn in waukeens promenade. No icestorm. Only cone of cold.

The Cowled wuzzard mageteam I am playing through now, haven't met it either. My envoker took it as a starting spell too. those who die from the cold, freezes and splinter like Terminator 2. Kinda impressive feature. My team is currently hanging out in the underdark and so far I haven't seen another Icestorm.
I've checked with SK. Here, only one Icestorm is mentioned. Greater Malison is mentioned 4 times. This could mean that there is only one pre-fixed scroll of icestorm. And that it hopefully is In the shadow thieves HQ.
Perhaps You get lucky in a random encounter. May the force be with You

be some time before i can check out whether this powerful spell is available at the Shadow Thieves... im now at Suldanessaler with my m/c thief/mage/fighter...

if any of you are still able to go to the Shadow Thieves... pls check this out for me.. id be most greatful...

 

When you're in Suldanesselar you're still be able to go back to Athkala, just walk to the south, click on the edge and go to Athkala

Zort.. how sure are u of that? coz someone said that there is only one copy of it in SK

 

I think that part of SK i mentioned seems to quite unreliable. Since I could buy 3 copies of Icestorms in Shadow-Thieves guildhall. Or perhaps this number of appearences in SK means how many "PLACES" it is prefixed and not how many "COPIES" are prefixed. I don't know perhaps Zort unravel this Mystery.

 

What is SK and what is the mystery? That you can not buy ice storm from anyone except the shadow thieves? Well if anyone of you gets near the shark city I guess you could check it out.Maybe some vendors sell random scrolls? Besides it wouldn't make sense for the developers to just put one copy around since some monsters drop random scrolls and ice storm isn't that powerful.

Yes they may be found from random encounters. But that doesn't make it strange that it can only be bought from one place. YEs in a roleplaying sense it is certainly strange.
But in a programming way it isn't strange.

I called it a mystery excactly because it is strange that only one can be found in the entire countryside of Amn. And perhaps in the Shahugian city in the deep ocean.

 

Maybe the scroll has to be kept at a freezing temperature. If it gets too warm it may melt. So only the shadow thieves bothered to get the proper refrigeration.

And The comedian streak has hit the Board. Nice! I would say "cool". But that's too far out to be anyway near funny... Even for me.

 

ICE STORM is not powerful? it is very powerful indeed... it's rarity should explain it... for one, it deals field damage, so it can dispatch many enemies from long range...

also it has the ability to freeze someone.. if that person is hit a second time.. he is destroyed pretty much like a petrified target is.. and it can freeze not one.. but usually several.. and if ur like me.. and u cast this spell at least twice in any area.. no one can survive.. unless they have protection from cold.. which few NPCs have

 

It can freeze enemies? I never knew it could do that. So how does the freeze work? A save or something?
