What do you do for a living? Because I don't know what to do.

[IMG] Okay first, I know I'm not an active participant on these boards, that will change when I get better internet and connect my good computer to it (don't know when that'll be though...).

Anyway, what do you do for a living? See, I'm graduating next school year and I don't know what to do for a living. I'm looking for an old fashioned/adventurous/outdoors career. You know, something like hunter/trapper, blacksmith, fletcher or something. That doesn't mean that's all I'm looking for, I'll try to be open minded, but those are the type of things that I'd prefer. Anything you can suggest would be greatly appreciated.

So post your job and any advice or suggestions you might have for me. Thanks.

I suggest Geology. Why do you ask. Well first there is always a job for a geologist so you have good job security. Second with this job you could travel the world because Geology is the study of the earth. So if you ever get tired of the place you are in you can always move on to another and more than likley find a job. This is a career of adventure because there are many caves that sombedy needs exploring to see if there is any sort of valuble mineral or whatnot. hope this helps you

I'm still a student. I'm studying mediatic communications at an university, but I plan to earn a living in theater or cinema (hence my field of study)

Well, I don't quite know what to suggest... But i will suggest something in my field. :) You should work on documentaries concerning wild life or such! You travel a lot, see exotic locations, see exotic creatures... it's all good! :D

Student here too. IT, economics, engineering, management/leadership, consulting; you name it. Majoring in the three first, though. Hope I manage to get abroad after graduating -heard that China could use some educated people there. ;)

Student, finished a marketing and communications degree and am now doing my international business and management degree. Not really what you are looking for I reckon but still it's pretty interesting. Businesses are old fashioned if you think about it ;)

Student, looking to become an elementary school teacher. Of course, if I showed up for class, I'd probably get there faster.

Right now I'm temporary employed in a building contractor firm. It's mostly outdoor work, and there's a whole lot of different things to do. While I was at school I also worked at a farm, which also is outdoors and offers a lot of variation. And after spending one year in the Norwegian army, that is also a job I could recommend.

Thanks for all your responses, and by all means, keep 'em comin'. :D

Geology seems a little interesting as the adventure of exploring caves and such is quite appealing, but the subject itself does not interest me all that much. I'll keep it in mind though.

Documentaries and stuff may be interesting but it doesn't seem that stable, and after my Communications Technology class, I'm not to interested in making any type of videos anymore.

Farm work also catches my eye, there are alot of types of farms after all. I'll keep that one in mind also.

Thanks to everyone for all your help so far and please, if you come up with anything let me know. In the meantime, I'll keep searching and I will consider all you send my way. But I still haven't found what I'm looking for :hmm: (wait, isn't that a song by U2? ;) ).

Currently, I'm a 'soldier'in Little Johnny's army. i.e. unemployed. And have been for about 7 years unless you count my current paper run.

Anyway, why not look at something like a Park Ranger or whatever the equivalent is where you are? It actually sounds pretty interesting to me anyway and it certainly involves a lot of outdoors work.

Actually, I have looked at Park Ranger/Warden and Conservation officer. They are about the only ones that actually caught my attention along with hunting :) . I will most likely have to stay an extra semester to get the right courses, and the competition is very tight in those two careers and the chances of actually getting a job are low. I wouldn't mind the risk if it was something I really wanted to do, but I'm still on the fence. Yet, they are the only things I've found so far.

So, common down and add any advice you might have and tell us what ya do for a livin'. ;)

Become a lawyer. You get to visit different places, meet interesting people...And sue them!

But seriously, if I could pick any job - I would go into one of two fields: Join NASA and become an astronaut, or be a field photographer for National Geographic. That would comine my two greatest loves: travel and photography!!!

But until I get rid of the mountainous debt my law degree earned me, I have to stick to the legal gig!

Join a traveling medival reenactment gig. You get to be outdoors and do all the stuff you want to do. I can't say that it pays well since I'm stuck in the US navy, but it seems to be were most of us belong.

IT Systems Analyst - It's about as far away from what you seem to like as you can get.

I like the photography idea, that could take you literally anywhere.
