    I can't believe nobody's mentioned Green Day yet! My favorite is "Boulevard of Broken Dreams".

    @SleepleSS:
    Is DVDA a real band? I heard that the creators of South Park (cartoon about foul-mouthed kids on Comedy Central) just made it up.

    Well, Green Day doesn't seem to be really anywhere near what he's looking for...

    Well at least it's closer than Weird Al Yankovic. :lol: I think kuemper suggested that one. Besides, GREEN DAY ROCKS!

    Yep DVDA is the band of the creators of Southpark. They only made a handfull of songs, but the all are really cool! DVDA also played the music behind the "Chef" songs.

    If you want something different than the heavy rock, I'd recommend "The Alan Parson's Project" -- an alternative music group from the 80s. They are mentioned and spoofed in "The Spy Who Shagged Me" and I think their music is great (though it is about as far from metal as it gets).

    In Flames are nice, check out the Clayman and the Colony albums.

    In Flames are awesome, especially when they decide to do instrumentals with the acoustic bits.

    Emperor - Best Black metal ever. Nothing can touch them, nothing gets close. Complex, enthralling, epic. Hard to get into, but infinitely re-listenable and so damn rewarding. I heavily recommend 'Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk'.

    Dark Tranquillity is the best melodic death on the market (and they totally own In Flames as well as the rest of the Gothenburg scene)

    Sonata Arctica is easy to get into and hard to let go.

    Iced Earth owns heavy metal.

    Opeth are masters of creating atmospheres.
