I don't get it. This weapon gives one extra 1st through 4th mage spell but can't be used by mages??!! (or druids/clerics either). What good is that?

It's best used for fighter/mage multiclass characters or fighters dual-classed to mages. They can appreciate the abilities granted by the blade.

It can also be used by bards and combinations of thief and mage (multi or dual). I rarely use it nowadays, but it is a great weapon.

It's fairly fitting really. As a Zerth Dak'kon wasnt a mage, rather a warrior mage. So only allowing multi classed mage to wield it does make some sense.

    I think the blade sucks.
Every time you remove it you lose the spells!

My next PC, a Fighter/Mage is great with a Bow too and he could never use it if I was relying on this blade for extra spells.

    Duel weilding with a Blade...Haer'Dalis...?
Maybe I'll give it a try if I ever let a Bard in my party. ;)

I like it - my FMT uses it with Celestial Fury. A bonus Stoneskin and Mirror Image is always of use, until you get something really good. As I don't switch away from it, I get the full bonus of the spells.

My only gripe is that it should be green, in keeping with PS:T :p

Well, for an off-hand weapon, it seems good enough - extra spells and an AC bonus... There's only 1 belm, though.

Originally, I didn't like the blade either, but... I believe Imoen and Nalia, can use the blade. Now I haven't tried it yet, but since I do plan to switch to a bow in combat, my current plan w/the blade is to place combat spells into the extra spell slots... Basically this looks like a good "sequencer" setup. I have previously been less willing to use the sequencer because it seemed like wasting a high level spell. Now I'm thinking I'll place strategic spells in the extra slots, use the spells immediately in combat, and then switch to a bow or sling if I need to. Alternatively, I could use the extra spells to cast long-duration buff-spells before entering combat, and then switch weapons as I need them.

But I have to agree, this looks like more of a Bard or Fighter/Mage weapon...

Anyone got any interesting DZ-blade strategies?

Well, I used it with Immy and Nalia, and even Jan, and Haer, too, but one of my favourite spells is Melf's Minute meteors, so if a thief/mage has dak'kon blade in the off hand, he loses Thac0, and if he carries it in the main hand, he loses spells.

Works all right with Haer in off hand. though.

Yes I find that to be the problem too Kulyok. I like to use Haer'Dalis (being a musician I HAVE to have a Bard) with Melf's Minute Meteor so I put iDak'kons in his offhand...don't care as much about the Thaco as I do about the extra spells cuz he tends to stay in the back of my group, but I would just love to have an offhand weapon with a spell bonus like Celestial fury or Pixie Prick ... decisions, decisions...seems like the essence of this game. (I've learned a bit since I first posted this thread thanks to everyone at this website).

Underthewronghat: Sounds good to me but knowing myself I'd get lazy or forget...there is SO much to do and only so many rounds to do it in. I often forget to do half the things I mean to...I ALWAYS forget the ring of ram :bang:

I also used Dak'kon (and Celestial Fury) in Imoen's main hand after Spellhold (with Tenser's Transformation). Worked all right. But the number of attacks is too bad, even with Improved Haste.

This blade is great , for fighter/mages good off hand weapon and even for charakters like Imoen or Nalia.
Just put it on before rest , memorize spell and then rest. Before you switch to bow you have free stoneskin and in first battle free MI , MC etc.
Just dont forget to remove the used spells before switching weapons.
