[IMG] I need help recovering from a bonehead mistake. I paid off Galen Baugh and got the key to the secret door in the ShadowThieves Guild to meet with Aran. However, I went on and did a bunch of other things first (everything I could do still in Chapter 3). Now I find that somewhere I must have accidentally dropped the key. I'm a T/M so didn't hook up with Bohdi, and now I can't open the door to meet with Aran, so I think I'm stuck. Any clue how to move to Chapter 4 and/or open that dang door without the key (including at this point a cheat -- I'd hate to start over). Thanks.

get shadow keeper, or see if you have a save somewhere previous to the mistake.

shadow keeper can load you char on to it and you can find the key in their items list and put it in you guys inventory

  3. Its less tempting to use the CLUAConsole:createitem("xxxxx") with ShadowKeeper You begin to mess around with too much. Trust me :(

But I am not helping much if I don't have the keycode. I'll try and find it.

Okay I am back with step one enabling cheatcodes I'll just copy and paste. If You want to cheat more You'll find it Yourself I bet. But here goes:

Enter the Baldur's Gate II directory and find the baldur.ini file. (Should be in the main Black Isle folder.)
Double click on it, and the .ini file will open in Notepad. Scroll down in the file until you reach the heading Program Options, and underneath, you should find a list of commands with numbers following (i.e., BitsPerPixel=16, Acceleration=0, etc.). Begin a new line anywhere under the Program Options heading, and write the command line: Debug Mode=1. (If this doesn't work in your game, write Cheats=1 under [Game Options] instead.)
This will tell the game to accept cheats and you will be able to enter the console. Save this file and exit.
Now start the game and open the console prompt by pressing Ctrl and the space bar.

    Okay back with step two.
    Enable Your Console and write:
    CLUAConsole:createitem("key12")

I know this takes a bit of "geekprogramming" but its easy and Your computer doesn't bite.. Much ;)

[IMG] Eh! A new friend that prefers Console...

Anyway, there is a file called "Power Users.txt" in BG2 installation folder with instructions how to activate the console.

    The question that remains is:
    Are you a power user?

I am more of an explorer. Actually It was one of your post on weaponry that made me experiment.I just tried to help someone and found this cheatguide here on SP and Your post. It was easy to work with. and didn't invite to further abuse of the game. So naturally I suggested him to do so.

I don't get to spend much time with computers in my job..So power-user is hardly me. Do You have something interesting to teach me? I am done playing for today anyway.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I will have to either start over or cheat (I don't have any earlier saved games with the key). I haven't decided yet whether I'm going to cheat to open the door but I'll let you know.

getting A key which You have earned and accidentally lost can hardly be called a cheat. Call it realistic gameplay. In a real world you wouldn't go tossing important keys around would You. And for 15000 GP Gaelan better give You a new key. Just pretend that it happened. But use the CLUAConsole. Its actually quite easy. 5 minutes max. If You don't like messing with Your .ini files then email a copy of Your savegame to me and I can fix it.

    [IMG] Step One:Open the game's directory C:bad:Program Files\Black Isle\BGII

Step Two:Open the Baldur.ini file in notepad

Step Three:Find the line [Program Options]. Under it are a variety of settings for your game. Add this line:
Debug Mode=1. And it must be Debug Mode=1, not debug mode=1 or anything else.
    Save and close notepad.

Step Four:Now when you are in the game, press CTRL-SPACE to bring up the Console. This is where you will enter all the cheats.
Here is code for the Shadow Thief cellar key:
    CLUAConsole:CreateItem("misc4s")

Extremist, from all Your posts I have noticed that you just hate editors. Why is that? I mean I could understand if you hated cheating in general but you only seem to hate editors (and especially SKeeper). I just don't seem to understand.

[IMG] 1. I don't hate editors in general - only one editor.

    2. I hate cheating. Unless you do it just to find out some info.

    3. I always suggest usage of editors if it is only way to nullfy the bugs.

    4. I hate SK only because of bugs it creates under much usage.

    5. I hate cheaters who can't finish the game without cheating.

If you hate people who can't finish the game without cheating extrimist, does that mean you hate me? Oh yeah, SK doesn't ALWAYS crash your computer if you use SK too much.

fyi, I tried Nomad's advice, but got a syntax error; then, believe it or not, I wandered around the whole flippin world and checked boxes and chests and stuff and lo and behold I found the key (in the tavern in the Umar Hills) -- so I moved on -- thanks for the input.

[IMG] IIRC there is an option to enter Aran´s nest from the outside once you paid Gaelan Baye. I think that you can enter the place through the lower side entrance of the shadow thief building. You just need the key to open he door inside. ;)

I didn't think you needed a key to open the side door. I thought you could just pick it.
