I think the US beans are sweeter, but apart from that I can find no other differences. They are a nice side part to certain meals, but the English (and Welsh) seem to have them with everything!

    Sausage, beans and chips
    beans on toast
    chips and beans
potatoes, beans, carrots, onions and mince meat
    etc

Beans can also be substituted with spaghetti hoops on!

I can agree on English bread - its plain, tasteless and only fit for toasting, though crumpets are the exception to the rule.

    Rally,
pot o' yumminess, eh? Baked beans simply turn my stomach ... maybe my scottish host served me the 'economy' variant, a la 'buy one, get ten free!'.
Eating up my portion made me gag but politeness dictated me to finish (I really liked that girl, and she put so much effort into serving me that warmed up tin can) ... I earned a medal that morning, with V for valor.

Taste aversions are classically conditioned and usually permanent, so I don't think I'll try baked beans again the next 30 years.

    *shudder*

As I said, taste aversions are classically conditioned and usually permanent, and that is good so as it protects me in the future from ever trying this devious stuff again.

I can live perfectly well without baked beans for the rest of my hopefullly long life.

Oh, I didn't say British food as a whole is the worst - I only said that, without a doubt, the worst food is British :p

Well our sausages are great if you buy them from the right places... get them from Aldi, Lidl (You know what i mean yuo Brits :D ) or any other economy store like most pubs probably do then your asking for trouble :p i get mine from my uncles butchers and have them made with fillit steak and leak (I dont usually eat the reds but they're so nice!!

You have to be a little nuts to think that every brit eats a plate of sausages bacon two or three different prepared eggs, fritters, fried bread mushrooms and fried tomatoe for breakfast everday (what do you think, we get up at the crack of dawn?? haha You probably tried your English Breakfast from a cafe or hotel where they probably gave you the economy brands again.

Fish and Chips? Dont look nice but they are so nice to eat i couldnt live without having them once a month :D

we also have quite a few good salmon and cod dishes that do not have them coupled with a varietnt of potato.

Anyone who has any concerns about English food needs to visit the London Borough Market on a Sunday morning. The food at that market is on a par with any of the good food I've seen anywhere in the world.

Ragusa, I agree about Baked Beans. Not that I don't like the taste of them, but that I don't like being around myself for a few hours after eating them. Nor does anyone else for that matter. I'm truly a man that brings Status to Flatus and Class to Gas...

Personally there isnt a particular country I dont like the food of, I think they all emulate the overall feel and culture a country has. The fact ours is sort of tacky well...what did you expect? :p

I do enjoy black pudding alot though which most seem to find disgusting. Nothin like a nice piece of fried pigs blood. Yummy. Now i'm hungry. :(

You can't beat a Sunday Roast, and there's no doubt that British puddings beat the continental crap to a pulp. Spotted Dick, Treacle Tart, Suet Pud, Fruit Pies, Crumbles and sponges. Against what? Ice Cream, crepes (Pancakes are better) and Creme caramal? OK the Italians have Tiramisu which gets them a mention.

Odd, because in Elizabeth David the English had one of the best writers on food and cooking anywhere in the last 60 years. Perhaps they only read her.

Do English people eat sweet potatoes? I'm not a big fan...it's basically the same sauce as baked beans (I think?), but substitute beans with chopped potatoes.

    If you like brown sugar...

There is nothing wrong with Bacon, eggs and chips. Especially if you add sausages, beans and tomato to make it a Full English breakfast :)
