    [IMG] Hello all,

I have been an absolute Age of Kings nut for the past 12 months or so untill I ventured into the world (ok, you guys prolly call it 'relm') of BG2. This is a really amazing game :)

At any rate, I am very new to this genre of game and a have a few questions:

    1) What do I do with the scrolls of magic that my mage/priest/whatever won't "read magic". I have the spells in my spell book etc. Do I need to keep these scrolls for later or can I sell/dispose of them?

    2) Im in chapter 2. I have been asked to undertake a couple of quests and had my map updated. However, when I exit the slums district and call up the map, I notice the updated areas out in the country side are grey and I can't send my party there. Have I missed the deadline to undertake that particular quest (eg to Windspear Hills etc) or can I only undertake that quest in a subsequent chapter.

    * before anyone flames this poor newbie post, bear in mind that I have read the manuals (admittedly at high speed, I hate manuals) and have tried the search engine on this site.

    Please give me some guidance.

PS. Just a reflection, but that Viking type chap that joins the party for the Book of Kaza (or something), is a noisy pain in the butt. Yet he seems to fight quite well.

  2. 1)You can do a number of things with these extra scrolls. Most common use for spare scrolls would be to equip them in your quick item slots and cast them as you need them. But you can also sell them for extra income or save them for other mages that you may come across so's they can learns them and you can earn some extra XP. It's all up to you.

    2) You gotta head on over to the city gate and walk out the gate before you can access the areas out in the countryside, I believe.

And as for the little "Viking type chap" that you're refering to, his name is Korgan and he's perhaps one of the best fighters in the game if not THE best. If you're running an evil group, hang on to him, 'cause he's gonna be your best friend in the world in tough battles. Just wear some earplugs if his noise bugs you.

Leave the city via the gate district (first time and whenever it won't work otherwise).

    Scrolls:
either your mage allready knows the spell -> you can place it in one of the three scrolls ready slots to cast at any time from the main screen
or your mage (if specialist) can't learn the spell because it is of the wrong scool
or your mage lacks brains to read more spells of that level (you can drink certains liquids (no not beer or wine) to increase int for a while to learn the spell)

Instead of selling a scroll you may want to keep it for a future mage, who may or may not know that specific spell.
