How would you develop Misc?

Misc is good at two handed sword and long bow. But on the other hand, he is two weapon style. I would like how you would develop him. Let him go the two handed sword and long bow path? Or further develop his two weapons style? The latter seems to require some long term investment on other weapon types.

Personally, I chose to make Minsc Proficient in Dual Weilding because I had Keldorn using the Carasomyr and Proficient in Two Handed weapons.

I went for 2-h weapons and let Minsc use 2-h sword or halberd since there a couple +4 out there. I also had Keldorn wielding 2-h sword but that didn't stop me :)

It really depends on what other characters you have and what weapons you want to take advantage of.

I have Minsc dual wielding Celestial Fury and Daystar/Raz, depending on what I'm fighting.

My character is a paladin, so he has Carsomyr.

I just felt Bioware wasted to many weapon proficiencies with Minsc. Why half develop a character for two handed and dual wielding styles? I went with 2 handed partly because I didn't take a paladin in my groupd. Minsc uses halabreds, two handed swords, and long bows with at least 1 * in two handed proficiency. I didn't feel there were enough proficiency slots left to develop him to dual wield with what I want to dual with.

Make sure you give him a slot in the Halbred, as it lets him stand farther off, swinging over the heads of some summoned beasties. Even monster 1 and 2 can be useful with theat strategy.
There are also some real good halbreds (+4)in the later chapters.

He's a ranger. He gets 2 free points in dual wield.

My protagonist iss a Kensai with five proficiency slots in Two-Handed Sword, so Minsc is my dual-wielder. Mace in one hand, Flail of Ages in the other (which needed a proficiency). But I'm only in Chapter 2, so he's still evolving. Stupid, but evolving.

Sorry. I'm still relatively new to D&D, and I've never played a Ranger from start to finish. I didn't know they got free points in dual wielding. Makes sense why he has it, but not why the Bioware folks wasted(just my opinion-don't take it personally) two points in maces.

[IMG] Maces aren't so bad; there are very decent magic ones, and they are rather plentiful. At least they didn't waste his proficiencies on the hammer, which is no more deadly than a blunt dagger. Useless.

And while we're on the topic, specializing Jaheira in, of all things, the club? THE CLUB?!? Give me a break. What were they thinking? Oh, sure, magic clubs are just laying on the fucking ground! What a waste! Thank god she can't use darts or they would have specialized her in that, too. "Hey, let's specialize Jaheira in the spoon! What a great idea!" Bastards!

See what you've done? Now I'm all upset! :)

Um... There are at least two great magic clubs that I'm aware of. IIRC their names: Blackblood +3 and Gnasher(?). The latter (not sure if I got the name right) leaves splinters behind for extra rounds of damage...

Yeah, I was pretty pissed by Jaheira's specialisation in clubs too, Neverworlder. My god, how ridiculous. Anyway, I gave Minsc two handed weapon fighting style for more critical hits and a lowered speed factor. If I had an extra proficiency point, I would max out his dual wielding and leet him dual wield the sleeper and the mace of disruption + 2.

Clubs may suck at first glance, but crushing weapons generally are pretty good.

With my party I had them Maxed out on different weapons due to the fact that I dont want them to share good Items and also the fact that they can deal with other monsters that may be immune to blade weapons but not hammers. I had a party with 3 fighters, one ceric and a mage. I was a duel assassin-fighter class.

Sorry, Neverworlder. I apoligize for inadvertantly getting you worked up. Clubs are a waste of time as even the best ones are still weak by this games weapons standards. Should have taken what little thought they put into clubs and placed it into scmitars. There are plenty of decent magic maces, but I just don't find them to be too terribly usefull. I only keep a couple around for specific situations.

I kept Minsc using two handed sword, because I had him using Lilarcor the wikked talking sword from near the start, and then bought Warblade, which rocks. I also occasionally used the Heartseeker Bow.

i would use Minsc with 2-Handed Swords... i have both him and Keldorn in the party, but it didbn't make too much difference as there are plenty of Magic 2-Handed Swords in the game!

I tried Minsc dualing the first i played... as i didn't realise Rangers get 2 free slots in Dual-Weild... so i thought it a good thing to try. Wouldn't bother... the best mace you can get your hands on is Skullcrusher.... IN THE UNDERDARK! grrr... so if you want him dualing with other weapons you have to build them up! May as well keep him in double-handed swords like the good ol' Minsc from BG1!

Minsc is great with the heartseaker. He always hits. He is my primary archer, with Imoen a distant second. But I just don't use arrows a lot. I found having a party with archers useful in BG, but since you can develop several really powerfull melee fighters per party in BG2, and since the really good arrows cost a lot and aren't nearly as plentiful, I dont' have a need to use the bow.

Not that the cost matters much once your about 1/3 through the game. You have so much cash you don't know what to spend it on.
At least I did, since all those extra quests got me some nice extras...
