can someone please tell me a place where i can find some cool avatars that have something to do with baldur's gate? anything would be appreciated.

What.. you mean outside the game? I don't quite understand your question.

 

I think he means those little pics we use on forums and boards.
IIRC the NPCs portraits are in the game subdirectories in .bmp format. Search the game dir.

If, or when, you send in a file or donate to this site, you will be given a link with all the IWD, IWDII, BG, BGII and PsT avatars on it. The only other way to get pictures of them all is;

1) Take screenshots of them ingame.
2) Open up the .bif storage files with WinBiff and extract each one from the 100+ angles they come in.

Minsc&Boo, if i remember correctly, they are called portraits not Avatars.

 

i appologize, i probably should have expanded on my question but i did mean avatars for the forums not portraits for the game. but i have got it figured out now. thanks again.

Correct me if i'm wrong.

Avatar: reincarnation of a god(or divine being) in mortal plane(ie, our beloved Earth).
In forum/board context i heard the pictures, that show next to our posts, refered as avatars.

Portrait: pictures that show next to our posts(also refered as avatar).
Pictures used to identify in a unique way BG's NPCs.

i "think" i can answer that, some people have little 3d avatars that are of characters from all those games. im pretty sure thats what gopher meant...i think...

 

Another definition of avatar is a visual representation of a human operator in a virtual setting.

That's the definition that is being used. The little characters in the games are called avatars, as are the things used here on the boards.

 

Gopher you said that when you donate to the site or SEND IN A FILE you get acess to these avatars. What do you mean by send in a file, the way i understood it, donating was the only way to get an avatar??

 

I imagine it means to send in a FAQ/mod that gets posted on SP.

 

Yeah, or a portrait pack, soundpack, walkthrough, guide, hack etc.

 

Look, I'm not playing mod or anything, but new members seriously should read the FAQ and Welcome PM they get when registering. This was required. But hey

By helping SP/Taluntain in any way, shape or form you get to choose an Avatar or portrait. That means you get a Picture (like mine) or little creature from one of the games here (like Rastor).

By helping SP you could Send in a walkthrough/guide you made, a new Mod, Portraits you made, or you can also get one by being one of the SP Team (say, a News Poster).
I shall now bragg a bit and note that I've done all of the above

try and donate the avatar you want as part of the database, could be a way out the loop.
