Funny how so little of this sentiment came out in the "Friends - SP v. RL" thread in the Alley a few weeks back, but it's exactly the kind of thing I was getting at.

Friendship don't need no faces. :)

[IMG] This place is the only place I can rant and unleash my true evil self with less reprisal than what I might face outside :o

And I really don't have anything else to do online anyway... :o :o

I guess I originally posted this topic in the wrong forum  Sorry about that! I actually though about the topic after I read the thread about anger in the whatnots forum and started thinking about how differently we all view the world and how people can be a lot more honest writing in a forum where people only know as much or as little as you want them to.

For me this place is socialization, entertainment, diversion, and a little therapy.

I openly admit that without SP I'd have killeed myself, (*hugs everyone*) so yeah, this is therapy for me. the so-called "real" therapy I have been in hasn't helped me one whit.

As for prople being "less real" in real life, or words tot hat effect... Well, I'll be meeting Eze once again later today, and believe me, "Less real" is the last thing I'd think....

I would certainly say there are some people less real than RL. Some people here I only know by a name, if not less. There are quiet a few people here I'd consider friends which I've only met through here, and what makes it different to RL is the people here are across a wider range a ages.

Another great thing about SP is that, unlike RL, I very often lose arguments, which makes it all the more fun.

I've learnt so many new things here, which I probably wouldn't have known about if I never stumbled arcoss this place. One of the major things I've learnt is not to generalize, before coming here I use to dislike all Americans, but coming here I relise that some aren't to bad, infact some are really nice people, even if they do have strange sports and can't spell right :p

Sorcerer's is my haven sometimes. I have met people here from around the world and participated in conversations that really made me happy for just the participation. I find that allthough many here are younger or a lot younger than me (sadly), the level of topics rarely fell below good. I am happy that i ahve found this place and you people. Thanks Tal (and BTA and everyone to come and think of it) for keeping this place up and running with such a rare quality.

I've met some very cool people here, and many of them have been extremely helpful over the past few months. Part of me would like to meet them in person, but another part says that might destroy the magic!

[IMG] That is true all too often. In point of fact, I'm much less charming myself in real life than I am on the boards and via cyberspace.

(I know what you're thinking now, so just bite it!) :p

It is kind of strange. Beside my recent exploits in ToEE and NWN:SOU, I haven't been playing any of the supported games in a while. But still I hang around the boards just for the community. And well, I have never been the most active poster, with little more than 400+ post in 3 years, but I have still seen people come and go on these boards.

I had my biggest break from the boards a few months ago, as I was 6 months peacekeeping in Kosovo, and when I came back to the boards, well lets just say that a lot of new faces had taken over... But well, so far it seems the community is getting better and better....

I'm thinking about my success at makeing a repayment system concerning my phone bill :) And also how excited I am to play my band's next and soon to be biggest gig in the local area! We're expecting a sell out with 350 people. Of course, we're not drawing in 350 people but its part of a festival sought of thing. 12 bands spread over 3 nights and we're in the second night. From what I've heard, our night is selling out the fastest and we have many friends and *ahem* fans and even soon to be fans to come watch us ;)

    Damn we're excited!

The best thing in SP is that all prejudice is all ingnored. Everybody is resecptfull and most of the time you can post without fearing represal (sp?) or without feeling like the dumbest guy in the world. You can be yourself without fearing what the others think about it and it's a great thing considering it's a Video game Forum! So I'd rather tell that every Sp-er that post daily or come daily is from a big family all over the world! I mean some people even talk about Personal life! And it's a forum! So the people who are visiting it most be great people if some person would rather talk about personal life in a video game forum than to ¨real people¨. So I think it make SP-er more real than ¨real people¨

Or rather, the morons/bigots/homophobes/racists/fundamentalists get nuked by Taluntain or BTA's Epic Spells of Banning with a DC of 9999999 before they are able to spew too much of their stupidity forth.

That's one reason why SP rules. One of the best regulated/moderated boards online ever.

-No, I'm not sucking up. :p

What was that about prejudiced people? Perhaps I should revisit all those "What and who do you hate with all your heart and soul?" threads.

The amount of spammers/trolls/post jerks (for lack of a better term), however, is rather surprising. They're not impossible to find, I'm sure, should you look back in previous posts. But in all serious, in comparison with other boards I visit (SKR's boards, Wizards' D&D boards), the amount of post jerks is relatively the same, without the same SP rules. One thing that I do notice, however, is the nice general absence of bad spelling and overall mesiness.

The AoDA (probably the one Misc. thread I try to stay away from, besides ALFA) is cool too. It is nice to see people with different perspectives discussing, uh, stuff, although the more I think about it, there are a lot of people who express one certain on a few certain topics. But the diversity is still quite nice.

The one thing that really kicks about SP is that there is everything here. There's the Whatnots, the AoDA, the Playground, and then all the D&D cats.

I guess nerdy computer games attract a higher quality clientel than shoot em ups and Tomb Raider. The people here are super classy (sorry for using such a corny term) and most everyone is really intelligent. The people from non-English speaking countries are amazing. They all speak fluent english. I feel guilty because I don't know their language.

Also, sorta off topic, why is there more Fins and Nethers here than anything else?

Actually, there is also a rather large contingent of Swedes, Danes, and Norwegians too. I think it is mostly because people from bigger European countries go to forums in their own languages and the fact that the Scandinavian countries and the Netherlands are the ones that surf the most per capita (not sure about exact numbers but they are up there).

And if you made a forum for scandinavians, none of us would be able to understand each other if we used native language! Oh wait, no, thats only when we speak, in writing its ok....

Seriously though, I can't understand what most swedes or norwegians say, which might be quite amasing, considering how similar our languages are...
