Can someone recommend good DnD Wizard books??

    I'm sick of reading Drizzt and Elminster novels and I don't have too much knowledge about other FR novels which have the main character as a Wizard/Sorcerer...if anyone could recommend some well written novels of the kind, I'd appreciate it.

    I know that there is at least one book featuring Khelben 'Blackstaff', and another one with Volothamp (this one I think is an 'Around the World in 80 days' rip-off).

    Faraaz, did you check all the FR/D&D/Eberron books listed on SP yet? The lists haven't been updated with the new additions this year yet, but they have all the books prior to that listed.

    Try Elaine Cunningham's 'Counselor & Kings' and 'Starlight & Shadows' series. They are both quite good.

    Thanks...I'll give that a go.

    @Tal: I've had a general look around the SP books section...but see, I'm looking specifically for Wizard/Sorcerer oriented DnD books set in the FR setting. And I was too lazy to go look up what each book was about...

    I'll be seeing if I can get Elaine Cunningham out of my local library then...thanks guys!

    I found Shandril saga first book awful.

    I thought it started out really great, but before long everyone was cliched and forced in quite a few places. Not to mention absolute lack of realism. Or should i say fantasy realism, i do not mean to bash the book because it deals primarily with magic. It's the careless approach to it.

    I have The Avatar series, it's great, so i'm inclined to buy Shadow of the Avatar Triology, but i see it's all written by Ed greenwood. Can anyone who read it say how it compares to the original Avatar?

    i will second that moonshae and shandril suck big-time. haven't read shadows either, but avatar trilogy was good. except for cyric's transition, that has got to be the worst good guy -> bad guy transition in all of history. Even Aribeth de Tylmerande(sp?) had a better transition in NWN :rolleyes:

    I forgot, definitely pick up The Shadow Stone by Richard Baker. stand-alone novel in faerun, awesome stuff. The lead is Aeron Morieth, a wizard/shadow adept.

    Also, forgot if it was already mentioned but the Return of the Archwizards trilogy has Galaeron as the lead. He's an elven F/M turned Shadow Sorcerer.

    Shadow Adept as in the PRC prestige class? Bonuses to Necromancy, Enchantment and Illusion with penalties to Evocation and Transmutation?? AWESOME!! :D :D :D

    Turns out this Cunningham is really good, all her books are out on loan currently, I'm going try for Return of the Archwizards & The Shadow Stone...

    I think so, but in the novel, he's just starting out :p

    I only mentioned he was a Shadow Adept because I looked at some DnD FR Prestige Class Manual and in one of the pictures, the caption was "Aeron Morieth, Shadow Adept" :p

    I've read the Cleric Quintet...but then again he's a Cleric isn't he? Not an arcane caster...and I really wanted to read some based on Wizards or Sorcerers seeing as they are my favourite class to play in all RPG games...

    I'm reading BloodWalk(er?), anotehr Wizard book. Pretty good so far, with a female sorcerer type, and an Aasimar ghostwalker who is pretty damn cool.

    The Justicar triology set in Greyhawk are the only TSR/WOTC books I ever truly enjoyed. The female main is a fairy wizard.

    Queen of the Demonweb Pits is actually the third book.

    To each their own. Paul Kidd's books are fantasy romps. They read like action-packed D&D sessions that I would have liked to take part in and it poke some gentle fun at the D&D genre in general. (You can't go dungeon crawling without a ten foot pole). I find it funny when Escalla tries to fast-talk zombies into releasing her.

    If you want epic fantasy it certainly nothing for you(I recommend GRRM), but if you want Salvatore style D&D novels with exciting, three dimensional fights, colorful characters with development and humour(All which Salvatore lacks IMO.) then it could be something to try out.
