[IMG] Do you read CSI books, or don't you?

When you do, what do you think of them?
    When you don't, why?

I read CSI books (in dutch), and I find them cool.
Most of the things you read, do you also see in the serie.
    Like the way the work.

I hope to hear from you soon! :)

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen the show. Ah well, Law & Order isn't really my cup of tea, so I doubt CSI would be.

I saw some CSI books on Schiphol Airport last summer and thought about buying them but since they actually were in Dutch I decided against them and look for them on Amazon. Apparantly they are not published in english, I could be wrong and I would be glad proven wrong because I could read them being a huge fan of the show.

Anyway, not going to read them in my native language because my native language.....ahSucks.

I just finished reading one, and I saw no difference in the way of working of the CSI-team.
And the books also say that they are based on the serie, so actually it MUST be the same as in the serie.

Although the cases they handle aren't the same as in the serie, that is how far I know.

It seems you are right Amaster. Weird that I didn't find them on amazon.co.uk last time I checked. Might pick one up if I get through my other unread books.

I find them fun to read, but I find it strange to hear that there in your place no CSI books are.
Because the serie is English, like CSI Miami en CSI Las Vegas.

So why do you guys (and girls when there are some), think that the serie is there but the books don't?

They do exist, we just didn't know about them. They're all on Amazon in English, and I'm sure all the originals were written in English anyway. You're reading the translations if they're not in English.

I have read the whole series and found Max Allen Collins has captured the flavour of the show perfectly. Huge CSI fan here; wasn't the series finale by Tarentino kick ass?!!

Being the snob that I am, I wouldn't read a novel based off a TV series unless it miraculously won the Nobel or Pulitzer or something. Too derivitive(sic).
Yes, I admit the irony in that I occasionally read books from a game, but really, I don't read TSR stuff or WoTC stuff unless I'm in a VERY weird mood.
As an English teacher, though, my motto is "as long as the little cretins are reading SOMETHING, I'm happy." :D

Mister DJ, I give them whatever might possibly catch their limited little attention spans. If the vocab of the CSI books is anything like the show, for the dumb a$$es, that would be a no go :bang:

Some of them like sports, so I recommend simple sports books (even though I teach grades 9 -- 12, for these kids the books have to be written at around grade 6 level) Others don't like anything, so that's where the real challenge comes in.

I think you miss the purpose of reading, LKD. The purpose is to entertain, as are the CSI shows. If these shows can perhaps spark an interest in reading, perhaps it will spark an interest into other areas, such as science in the case of CSI. I hardly think CSI is a show for dumbasses; it offers more information than most shows on TV. Good vocabulary is hardly the prime draw. Anything that could promote anything positive, such as interest in science, encourage it. Who knows where it will lead? You are looking at it from your point of view, from the language perspective. As a second class marine engineer, I enjoy the science and the deductive reasoning aspect. Perhaps there are budding forensic scientists out there who enjoy it for the same reason.
