    The Gap Series? Not that it was bad, but Donaldson should have stuck to a Fantasy setting. His two Thomas Covenant trilogies and the Mordant's Need trilogy were much better IMO.

    For anyone interested in Ender's Game, I would suggest reading the original short story if you can.

    Oh, and LotR really was a single novel, but they wouldn't publish such a large work as one book, so Tolkien had to break it up for publication.

    I have seen a copy of LotR as a lingle volume printed on real thin dictionary paper... the thing was still 4 inches thick...
    on topic my favorat boo was probalby The Rowan by Ann McCaffery, Recomend it if you like fantasy/ sience(sp?) fiction combination.

    BTA - I actually preferred the Gap series. Don't get me wrong, I liked the Chronicles too, but certainly the second lot strung it out too much for my liking. Mordant's Need - Very good, but only 2 books if I remember correctly? (A man rides through and Mirror of her dreams) or something very similar.

    LoTR - I have two single volume versions and the hardback copy is not an easy read in terms of size, but boy are the illustrations worth it! Fantastic artwork.

    Any idea where I can get the Ender's Game short? Is it avilable in a collection somewhere?

    Hmmm... I do believe you're right about Mordant's need being only two books. I think The Gap series for me was worse because the science in it was mainly bad. The whole premise of the SoD (silicon on diamond) devices being impossible to tamper with; silliness. That's why I feel he should have stuck to Fantasy.

    I have a collection of Card's short stories that I got from the Easton Press in my collection of "Signed First Editions of Science Fiction" that has the original "Ender's Game" in it. Hopefully, it can be found elsewhere; I liked it better than the novel.

    I'll grant you that the "science" was more Fantasy than Science if you see what I mean....

    I've had a look around various sites, unfortunately I can't find any mention of the Ender's Game short story yet, but loads of rumours about filming it. They seem to have been circulating for a number of years tho'. :( Could be a good film I think.

    I like Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow, but Xenocide and Speaker for the Dead both sucked.

    Anyone read the book "Armor"? I don't remember who it's by. It's kinda like starship troopers (not the movie) but it's a lot more, well...psychological? Can't really think of a better word. Oh, it could be spelled with a 'u', I don't remember now.

    My favourite all time book would be The animal farm. Next-the Bible (even as you read it, or the Kur'an, or any other holy book -they all have the same basic message- you feel....cleric-like; if you know what I mean... The lord of the ring rulez. As for D&D books, I would have to choose all of Salvatore's FR books.

    My alltime favourite book would have to be 'Magician' by Raymond E. Feist, and any of the other books in the series come a close second. Can't believe i haven't seen his name in the posts above, has anyone else read any of his work

    I've read all of Feist's books (that I know of) except for the Tear of the Gods...or something like that. I think that Magician is the best book in the series (really two books, but you know).

    I liked LoTR, but it was far from my favorite book. I think I prefer Feist and C.S. Lewis.

    I loved Anne McCaffrey, Fritz Leiber(I had read somewhere Gary Gygax liked him), Douglas Adams, Alan Dean Foster... But the only fantasy, let alone science fiction that still stands up for me is LOTR and the Narnia books. So these are not genre:

    1. "Absolute Beginners" Colin MacInnes

    2. "Nausea" Jean-Paul Sartre
    If you don't believe in God, you can believe in beauty.
    3. "Franny and Zooey" JD Salinger
    Our Duty: to be kind.
    4. "Alias Grace" Margaret Atwood
    How men are, how women are.
    5. LOTR
    Why? I guess, like "Nausea", just the beauty of the prose. I read it aloud just to hear those words come out of my mouth.

    another favourite i forgot, but i don't know how as my shelf is lined with them all nearly, is discworld series by terry pratchet, in particular reaperman. IT MUST BE GOOD TO SPEAK IN CAPITALS ALL THE TIME, LONG LIVE DEATH!!

    But there are others that are nice:

    Dead gate serie
    Krondor Triology
    Alice in wonderland
    The Hobbit
    Alice through the looking glass

    I also like the stories written by Lovecraft,and that book written by Eddings, I don't know the name...

    Lord of the rings is a good bok but not my Fav.

    Pratchett is my Favourite author and out of the ones i have read i would say GUARDS! GUARDS! is my fav book in the discworld series so far.
    I love his mix incredibly silly comedy mixed with advanced physics!
