    [IMG] You poor thing!

Right, you can only backstab if you're character is a Thief. Simply make your thief Hide In Shadows (the little face icon), and he/she will go invisible.

You must have a blade weapon equipped, most melee weapons will work fine.

Move your character behind (sometimes works in front) of the Enemy you are going to backstab.

Click the Attack button, or move your mouse over the enemy, and click. Your thief will jump out of the shadows (become visible again) and strike the enemy.

Your damage on the enemy will be multiplied by x2, x3, x5 or even x7 if you are playing an Assassin kit.

    Hope that helps.

You can backstab with any melee weapon that a thief can use, so it is not just blades but staffs too. Seems strange to be able to "backstab" with a crushing weapon but you can.

Pointing out the obvious, stalkers can backstab. You can't backstab with Valygar's family blade though.

yeah, it took me a while to realize I had to stand BEHIND the enemy for it to work. And it also took me some time to figure that Hide in Shadows only works when you are out the the enemy's line of sight.

And critical misses on backstab really sucks

Keep in mind that Swashbucklers can't backstab, so just keep in mind that if you're playing one. Still, the +4 to hit is still a plus, and scouting is great to have, so don't skimp on the Hide in Shadows and Move Silently ability if you're playing one; a Swashbuckler doesn't have any penalties to Thief skill points anyways.
