I have had little trouble with IWD until I tried to get through the Chamber of Immolation of the Eight Chambers in the Black Raven Monastery. I've tried every one of my party members, and read the useless walkthrough suggestions. Please help; I'm ready to toss the damn game!

    My suggestions:

The ability to thet through all of the chambers, imho depends on what kind of characters you have. If you don't have the suitable, it's not possible.

    Alternatives:

    a. Change difficulty level

    b. Kill all the monks and take the key from the monk leader. Killing all the monks is compared to the chambers the easy way out. They're pretty simple.

(If you want expirience for killing the monks, I think you must first speak to the grey dwarf commander.)

Or, if you're not above using cheats, look them up on SP and use the console to keep healing your character while he/she is inside this chamber.

I was unable to do that chamber with my Dwarf Fighter, and he did all the rest of them. I finally switched to my Cleric and loaded her up with monster summons. I summoned a Fire Elemental and I also got a couple of Fire Salamanders that really did the job well since they were immune to the fire effects of the monks. I had to heal her once (Heal spell) because it was tough to get the first few spells off (protection from evil and the Fire Elemental summoning) while dodging the monks and the Flame Strikes. Once the monks were busy with the Fire Elemental, it was easy to summon more monsters and then just dodge the flame strikes.

    what useless walkthrough suggestion?

    1 - send in wizard/sorcerer/cleric of mask
2 - cast mirror image as the first spell (to protect yourself from being hit the first few times and also the flamestrike)
3 - cast animate undead and keep casting
4 - recharge mirror image as it wears off.
5 - throw in Mordenkainen's sword while playing under HoF to damage the monks
6 - If your caster die, do not rest, send in another caster with summon ability. Your previously summoned will still be there.

Don't have animate undead and mirror image? That's beyond my ability. i am only good at a few things.

Ain't impossible, what ya need is a cleric of Lathander, send him/she in to cast(MARK well the order!): 1.Protection from Evil 2. Summon Fire Elemental 3. Protection from Fire

Now, the elemental will be poundin' the immolating monks while your cleric runs around and just waits for the elemental to finish them... Enjoy ;)

Similar way to BTA's. Cleric with some sanctuaries, heal, ironskins, fire resistance and fire elemental summoning. First spell sanctuary (move away), then resistance, then sanctuary (move away), ironskins, sanctuary (move away), heal (was needed), sanctuary (move away), elemental binding: fire elemental. Then it was only dodging the flames.

A rogue with evasion and improved evasion even better should be able to totally or nearly totally avoid fire damage. However, he's not the best of fighters, so either a good stat-wise build or some useful feats would be needed.

Fighters and barbarians could take the monks out, but even a dwarf with some 22 con will eventually be low on hp due to fire damage (mine got killed each time).

A mage with fire resistance and stone skin (plus improved invisibility hehe) memorised could perhaps do, especially one able to cast conjuration spells. If you frown on cheats but use exploits and don't really care about d&d purists, then know that multiclassed wizards *can* learn opposition schools' spells even though they are correctly blurred in the inventory.

My first time through, this was terrible. My sorceress finally did it with a similar to the above suggestion.

This time, I had a monk. Don't worry about moving, just stand and deliver some damage ... you'll automatically dodge the flames.

[IMG] If you have any character with an improved invisibity spell, cast it immediately upon entering the chamber. Once the character is invisible the monks do not even summon the flames and you can beat up on them without them attacking you back.

That must be a bug. Improve invisibility normally doesn't prevent foes from attacking back - it's only harder for them to succeed.

    1) Protection from fire helps vs flames, and improved invis against the monks. If you want to be a horrible person, Protection from evil, Gate.

The Gelugon does Cold damage.. Kinda funny that...

    2) Monks Rock. Just a Suggestion.

    3) Use the weapons in the Gold Disk within each room. Paladins have good saving throws.. Just a hint.

4)If you are a moderate-High level necromancer.. Try casting Flay.. (Always Fun)

I completed it yesterday, was rather easy for me, but I had the right character-Fighter/Rogue (evasion!).

Cast protection from Fire on the person that goes in there before...he goes in there (in fact, you probably want your cleric to memorize that multiple times), then grab weapons, then attack the Monks...then move away from the Flame Strikes when it appears near you.
