Am I just an idiot or what?

    For some reason, the special abilities "Stunning Fist", and "Smite Evil" just never seem to do anything. I hit the buttons to make them work, and I never get any activation message other than "Spell Cast". There's never a graphic in the GUI or in the game to indicate that these powers are being used, and I never notice an enemy status change in the game that would notify me that these powers are working.

    Any help out there?

    Are you absolutely sure you checked the Character Record screen after casting?

    Hmmm...yeah I've had this too believe it or not, my Paladin's Smite Evil and Turn Undead just does nothing. Any help would be appreciated. I have the patch.

    Are you sure that the opponent was evil in case of Smite Evil?

    Turn Undead per 3E rules is lousy for pallies. Please use cleric instead.

    Aye as the name say it smite evil is for evil creature^^. but Stunning Fist has a Fortitude save, equal to 10 + half your level + Widom modificator, maybe your opponent just save succefuly. :hahaerr: :hahaerr: mmm if your INT stats is lower than 7, yes you are stupid but if it's higher than no... :angel:

    [​IMG] No, I'm fairly sure I'm capable of determining if something isn't happening properly. Anyone know if this is an issue that's been brought to BIS' attention?

    I tried it again last night, and there's nothing in the character actions screen or the GUI that tells me I've used the ability and it has worked, and I've used Smite Evil on goblins, which are irrevocably evil, Turn undead on zombies, which are irrevocably undead, and Stunning Fist on Goblin Sorcerers, which are irrevocably wussy.

    Still awaiting some help. (At least I know it's happening to someone else.) :rolleyes:

    [​IMG] Actually, I've wondered what's up with Smite Evil as well. In BG2 it had a graphical effect which made it pretty obvious it worked, but the half dozen times I tried it on different evil creatures in IWD2 with my paladin it had no visible effect whatsoever.

    I assure you that this was not brought up to BIS attention because of the "speculative" look from the reports. Since there is no console command to summon creatures in IWD2, I cannot test this issue "immediately", plus I don't play with pallies. So please, if you have a saved game with pallie who has this ability and you are just about to meet a goblin or two, zip that saved game and mail it to me.

    I'll try to get it to you soon, but it doesn't seem to work with "Stunning Fist" or "Turn Undead either". My monk is level 7 (I'm in the area just after the crash of the airship), and my priest of Tempus is level 7 also. I haven't fought any undead other than what was in Vrek Vileclaw's lair, but "Turn Undead" didn't seem to work there either, and my cleric was standing right next to the critter.

    Thanks for taking an interest, tho. :)

    You know, I've used all of those quite a few times throughout my various games in IWD2. They ALL seem to work though. Hmm... if someone already hasn't they should send BIS an email regarding this, I'll send one after this post, but if just I do it, they may think nothing of it. So if you're reading this and you've had this problem, it would be a good idea to do so :thumb: .

    Stunning Fist doesn't work for my monk, and he's currently lvl 14. Needs to kill like one more person to lvl up, but yeah, I see nothing happen when I try to use stunning fist.

    Turn Undead has worked for a cleric I had in my last party, but her charisma was pretty high. My current monk is of the broken ones so he's got A level in painbearer of Ilmater and turn undead doesn't work for him, but his charisma is also a 6.

    I haven't tried Holy Smite, only had one paladin and that whole party was a mistake in the first place. One can hope for another patch someday...

    Wait a minute, I've already said that pallie's Turn Undead suck in 3E. This is not a bug, it's the rules, if you don't believe it just check other games with 3E d&d (PoR? :p ).

    I need only a pallie with that Smite Evil so I can check it. OK?

    As for stunning fist it may as well be that you're trying to stun the creature that is immune to stun. Again, I don't use monks so again I can't check it without a saved game.

    Understand something, please:
    BIS replayed the game many times and released the game when thought was that there is no bug left inside. Then players discovered several bugs which were reported and "proved" with saved games or exported characters or whatever. These bugs were fixed in the first patch.
    BIS won't test the game any more, believe it or not. And there is not a single chance that there will be a patch about any issue if that issue is not reported by players and confirmed as actual bug. This is why I'm asking for saved games.

    I have paladin and cleric and monk. They all seems to do what they should.
    I stun my enemies several times with my monk and even quivering palmed a slayer knight of xvim.
    I also turned undead with my PALADÄ°N. At the beginning of chapter 5, when you are done with Hierephus. I used TU several times there and all but one had succeeded.
    NOTE: I have Paladin of Helm 15/Fighter 4 and Stormlord of Talos 19. My paladin has more than 10 Turn Undead per day where my cleric has only one. Is this okay?
    However, I know nothing of smite evil. When I click the button, some animation occurs very similar to Draw Upon Holy Might's. That's all... I can use some help on that.

    These special abilities all work normally for me. I also use the cast spell auto pause that helps me know that they have actually used the special ability...

    I always have a Paladin in my party, and use Smite Evil frequently; it has always worked for me. There is no animation or anything when you hit, but if you switch on "to hit rolls" in the Options menu, you'll see that your Paladin's To Hit bonus includes his Charisma modifier, and the damage is well above what it would normally be.

    I think it is embarrasing that there are no animations. There should be something like the one occurs when you use "Stunning Attack" ability of monk where infobox says 'spell cast'(auto pauses for me too) and you can see it in character record screen. Oh well...

    Smite Evil and Stunning Blow are awesome abilities, but they have important limitations that involve the 3E system itself.

    Smite Evil only works on evil creatures. If you use it on a non-evil creature, it doesn't do anything for your attack but it will still get expended for the day. I know this sounds obvious, but once in a while a foe may 'seem' evil but really be chaotic neutral or some such alignment. However, Holy Avenger coupled with Smite Evil really does a number on Demons and Half-Dragons.

    Stun doesn't work on creatures that are otherworldy (like demons) and creatures that don't have a biological anatomy (undead, elementals). I think this also includes creatures that have special powers due to a template, like lycanthropy (werewolves).

    These abilities rock, just so long as you know what they work against.

    Hmm, well AFAIK the Turn Undead ability doesnt work on the zombies in Vrek Vileclaws lair. I had my Cleric use it, and they didn't respond, but ever since, it has worked (and just great too... :D ) I've had Stunning Attack work, but most of the time, the enemies just save, so... But when you activate Stunnig Attack, you should get a little red thingy on you portrait, I know I did.
