Yesterday I was doing battle in the Horde Fortress (outside) and my sorceress suddenly lost the ability to cast spells. She still had five castings left, but her spells were greyed out. I know she wasn't silenced, so I was wondering what else might have caused this. Any ideas?

For sorcerers, it's Silence, Feeblemind or Charisma loss. Try Dispel Magic.

Hmm, it wasn't any of those. There was no icon or indication that she couldn't cast spells other than the fact that she couldn't. :S

And I don't have dispel magic, because I'm only level 3 and I'm keeping my levels low to get more XP. :)

I take it you've tried resting to dispel any temporary effects?

Maybe someone level drained your Sorceror. I had my 10th level wizard level drained once right down to 3rd level, only I wasn't aware at the time because he was still described as a 10th level wizard on the character screen. I only realised what was wrong when I saw he had about 12-13 HPs. In which case a potion of restoration might come in handy.

I didn't try to dispel anything, because I was only third level and I couldn't cast it. I seriously doubt if she was level drained because I didn't see anything of it (no icon or somesuch), I was in Horde Fortress (and I don't think anything there can level drain) and it was over when I rested.

Well, I guess it was just a one-time glitch or something...

Edit: Appearantly it's not a one-time glitch, because my fighter/thief/illusionist can virtually never cast a spell. The only thing that helps is getting him killed and then reviving him, but then as soon as I cast some buffs on him, or even when I hide in shadows, he loses his spellcasting ability permanently again...

Well, I found out that some armor totally restricts spellcasting even though it's not in the armor's description. I saw that using some item editor. It said 'disable spellcasting', but I think they only meant arcane casting. However, this could be what is causing your problem. Try taking your armor off and see if you can cast again.

If one of your characters dies, you can resurrect him with the cleric spells Raise Dead or Resurrection. You can also go to a temple (ie person that provides healing) and buy the resurrection, although I don't know exactly how that works.

Yeah, there is a glitch that will resort in loss of spellcasting, particularily in the NA version, certain games will mess-up when playing a 6 member party (game file info will get jumbled) hence I had a monk that could use my Druid's spells... Only way to fix it legitimatly is to Export/Import the character. Other than that I wish you luck in your gaming.
