Actually it depends on enemy resistances.

If enemy is highly resistant to cold, you'll use Fire Shiled Red and vice versa.

For example, Fire Shield Blue is useless against Bodhi since she has 100% resistance to Cold, but Fire Shield Red is good to deal her because of her 0% resistance to fire.

Choosing a fireshield to add 50% to cold/fire resistance is not very likely, as there are many other ways to do that. Extremist already posted the way most people would use it. I am one of them. :)

Well, it gives some resistance to that element(50% I believe) so unless you're a Sorcerer have both spells memorized depending on what resistance it will give you, as well as what creatures are immune or resistant to it. For example if you were fighting fire elementals the resistance to fire would be nice, exept they will be immune to the damage from it. So depends if you're a more offensive or defensive player. I myself prefer doing damage to the enemy, cause a dead enemy won't be doing any damage to you :). IMO more monsters are fire related and use fire related spells than cold, but cold could be more useful if they are resistant to it themselves. So like I said, depending on the situation use what you'd like. For fighter/mages I'd go with fireshield(blue) as I will doing more damage with it, but with a regular mage or Sorcerer the defense is more important cause he'll never be on the front line absorbing hits anyway.

I'm with Extremist here - definitely depends on enemy: If he likes fire - take the blue one, if he prefers frot - take the red one ... the red one also works great on undead and trolls - and both offer excellent protection vs human enemies.

What's the problem with using both? Protection from fire & cold at the same time. Whoop! ;)

[IMG] If you use both, does it look purple? :p

I like Fireshield Blue just because of it's color.

Yup, it does look purple. I'm not sure if it does double damage though. Put 'em both in a Spell Sequencer as well as stoneskin, or invisibilty. Then just walk up to your enemies and watch them die !

I always thought that fire/ice shields are better suited for likes of kensai/mages, f/m especially since you're going to melee fight once you have all your prot up. Than you get, not only resistances, but constant damage dealing spell.

Almost never used it as mage.
