Hey I wonder what would be the perfect group for the single player. What you people think?
What NPC's should we get and how should the main character be?

Before somebody else starts yelling at you, let me just tell you that it's always a good idea to use the search option. Put 'npc' into a subject line search, and you'll see about 739,018,431.6 forums dealing with this very topic.

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but it's just to warn you. There's a big beefy guy who goes by the name 'harmonium disguised' whose personality has nothing to do with harmony, and certainly not disguised harmony who has all sorts of nasty things to say about people who don't use the search option. ;)

But to answer your question, because I'm not like him: the NPC's you choose generally depend on your pc's class and the personalities of the npc's themselves. I don't care how cool he may be to some, I'll never take Valygar anywhere. Nor Anomen.

I am beginning to believe that the "perfect" party is whatever you want it to be. I mean, if you look at the party that Duharrel has, it is certainly not one most people would have deliberately chosen...

The opportunites for intraparty conflict are way too large to have confidence in its pecaeful coexistence over the long term. yet, they seem to be functioning well - though I normally prefer having a second magic user.... even one that was dual or multi-classed.

OTOH, it is a FUN party as anyone who followed Wally's exploits can tell you. The interplay of NPCs of different alignements and genders is sheer humor at its often idiotic best - and I am just now beginning to really appreciate teh work that went into the dialogues and scripting options though this is my sixth time through as a non-solo (done that twice).

I have a feeling that nearly any party that manages to not kill each other and fight together can finish the game......... It does take figuring out how to use the strengths of each member to cover the weaknesses and backs of the other members... Just ask Wally or Duharrel about that!

No, I definately wasn't being sarcastic. I appreciate your help, once again.

    Someone called me? MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    Ok, here's the point:

    1. What class are you?
    2. What race?
    3. What alignment?
    4. What proficiencies?
    5. Other things?

Put that in your question and you shall get an answer.

    -----------------------------------

    BUT!!!
    What does this mean:
    A puzzle?
I can only answer on topic question like that something like this:
It is not your GD business!!!

Don't tell me you got brain lock or lacked the idea how to make proper topic title that people will understand what is it about.

    -----------------------------------

Ok, enough b**ching in this thread... for now... *evil grin*

Yeah, I think I got a brain lock or something. Maybe I lacked the idea how to make proper topic title that people will understand what it is about. Sorry about that.

So you really want me to put those thing in my question? Or maybe I should use the search option?

Anyways, thanks for the advice, Kailynne. I might as well read that Duharrel thing. Seems fun.

    I have:

    Me (as a Sorcerer)
Keldorn (Dispel Magic, True Sight, and Carsomyr)
    Jaheira (Druid spells and tanking)
    Mazzy (tank or sniper)
Aerie (Cleric spells and mage spells)
Imoen (Mage spells and thievery. Plus, you can't abandon her in Spellhold!)

A little magic-heavy, but has some of all types of magic and three excellent fighters. Could use more thief skills, but there aren't any decent theif NPC's in BGII.

No prob.. remember - the last word is the key - FUN... If a party that you create or wind up with somehow is no fun - CHANGE IT. It's that simple...

I literally stumbled across the "Wally the Insulter" thread and had so much fun reading it that I figured I would likewise try a character that had not appealed to me before - I normally play magic users or mage/thiefs. And I normally play Lawful Good characters... So, Duharrel represents almost a complete reversal of fortune and outlook requiring a game play shift that I hadnot expected... But it is FUN... so I will keep it going.

If you have a neutral/evil party:
Korgan: maybe the best fighter in the game with axe grandmastery. Give him the gauntlets of dexterity and ring of gax later and he cannot be beaten.
Viconia: best cleric with great wisdom and dexterity, and IMHO the best romance option.
Edwin: mage with a lot of bonus spells, he's amazing
Jan: great thief and a not very bad mage
For the fifth npc: maybe Jahiera

Currently I'm playing through with this party:

    Protaganist: Female Blade
    Haer'Dalis
    Edwin
    Minsc
    Jan
    Viconia

It's great fun :). I know many say that blades are awful in close combat, but put her on offensive spin, and she carves up the opposition :D. I was thinking about changing Viconia with Anomen, purely because he is a better fighter( Minsc is my only tank) and I've never used him before, but I cant really be bothered :D. And I know Minsc and Edwin will eventually come to blows, but I can avoid that using Extremist's patented methed ;). You get some great dialogues in this party too :D.

    My team is

    Me - Monk
    Anomen
    Valygar
    Mazzy
    Nalia
    Imoen

I have just entered the Drow city and been having a lot of fun going hand to hand with everything. Mindflayers are a pain to fight and I keep having someone in my team killed by them.

Heh, that's one reason why I always use 2 Clerics or a Cleric and Jaheira. Raise Dead and Ressurection are great ;)

Try npc one by one and then decide for yourself. :)

You'll be experienced on the second gameplay...

I've played through the game three times, always with different characters. Currently I'm playing with four characters created by myself, along with Aerie and Jan, who were the only ones missing to the list.
Next time I'll choose the funniest ones (Minsc, Jan and Edwin) and probably Anomen and Korgan... should be interesting...

And by the way: Capital Penalty on not having Jan in the party!

See, I find Jan the most tedious, irritating character in the game. I find his long monologues about turnips oppressively boring and not even slightly funny, and his voice acting drives me up the wall.

To each his own. There are enough characters in the game for everyone to pick some they like and still have interesting interactions.

Hey Nobleman, I fight the vamps alone too, because I kill Drizzt! :p :p

as for a very versatile party
    ME - Fighter
    Korgan - Fighter
    Viccy - Cleric
    Edwin - Mage
Jan - Thief/Mage (would have preferred straight thief, but he got some nifty items to make up for that)
    Haer'Dalis - He just rocks! :D
