Is it cowardly to play with Bounty Hunters?

Discussion in 'BG2: Shadows of Amn (Classic)' started by Zaragoth, Jul 17, 2001.

[IMG] What do you think? I´m thinking of playing as a Bounty Hunter or at least a thief through the game. And perhaps later on, dual to mage or fighter. Is it cowardly to play as Bounty Hunters and place traps and lure enemies out to them?
    thx.

As long as you don't make TOO MANY* traps it's okay.

[IMG] Perhaps it is indeed...but if you think on it bravery isn't the primary requisite of the thief. Cowardice matches well into the thief's intellect. :)

you have to play with the strengths you are given. to me, its a totally different twist on the game. it gets boring just hacking enemies up with fighters. I think a boutny hunter/mage would be a really fun class. I might do one myself for ToB.

remember, winning is everything, its not how you play the game.

[IMG] I think it would be a good twist a thief isn’t supposed to go toe to toe with people anyway. Use the skills that you were given, you’re a thief not a fighter so trap away and have fun. :)

Speaking of bounty hunters and traps, are your own traps supposed to hurt your team members or not if you accidently walk over them?

AFAIK traps don't affect your own party members if they walk across them.

Yup, which makes them even more powerful. No accidental setting them off :(

[IMG] Volar: So you think that they are too powerful? Do you think of them as more pwerful than the rest of the classes/kits?

Play with them wisely and you have a very powerfull caracter. Of course, if you want to be a thief, play like one: that mean no heroic one-on-one combats, nasty backstabing, run like hell, atract enemy in yours traps etc.
Cowardly? With a thief? Who could say that with C'Fury in his back? Ask the mages who never know what hit them :D

No winning is not everything as someone posted. The point is to have fun. It is a video game after all. Bounty Hunters are not out of place. The thing that is out of place in BG2 is being able to sleep every one minute. So I don't think that it's very realistic a party sleeping in front of a dragon for a week and then after they finally talk to him the traps turn on without the dragon even moving...

One of the fun in AD&D is to have different classes of characters. Each of the class have their own speciality. So for thieves, it's in fact their nature to set traps and backstab. However, you'll still need other classes of NPCs to complete the game.

So IMO a thief using traps is okay!

Um. No more so than casting lots of spells when you play a mage, I would think.

[IMG] Who cares if its cowardly or not. The point of the game is to take a class and use its abilities to the fullest, all classes have things like that, with the exception of the wizard slayer who is just horrible.
