Bardez is working on a Mod for Baldurs Gate 2 that allows you to play BG1, BG2, and TOB seamlessly. It allows you to play with kits right from the start of BG and also supports the same resolution of BG2 and TOB. It is a fantastic mod, just started it. Warning though, this is still in Beta but Bardez has the majority of bugs posted. The mod is massive though so unfortunatly if you have dial up might be difficult to get it. Go to www.teambg.com to check it out. Just started with an Archer and going through right now, although I might do a Fighter/Theif instead. Just playing around right now. Check it out and enjoy!!!!

That's a great idea! But it'll probably be the largest computer game anyone has ever seen :D

May have to try that. Going through BGI again with a kit would be very interesting. I'm thinking Inquisitor or Wizard Slayer...

Oh I think I just came. Been wanting to play all the way through as my Lawful Neutral Monk and my Lawful Evil Assassin. I keep just starting with BGII and cheating the experience a bit to make up for not using an imported character. So down for this but I think I'll wait for later versions (beta mods and me don't get along so well....many reinstalls).

Bardez has done a great job with the port... it's replaced my BG1 install entirely. I'm currently working on putting together a more user-friendly and smaller download... the current distro is about 670 MB plus another 100 MB in patches. The new distro (which should be completed soon, knock on wood) will be less than 700MB and a double-click installation. Uncompressed and installed, I think it adds about 2GB to your BG2 install.

I would have posted about it sooner, but I thought most folks here knew about it already. D'oh!

CamDowg: Most people don't as far as I know, I stumbled on it while checking out Teambg.com

The only serious problem I had was freeing up the roughtly 10GB needed to install the game. It takes only about half that after installed and you can then delete BG1 to free up space. But it is fantastic and I recommend it to anyone who wants better resolution and kits with a broadband connection. I recommend also gettting it from EMule. It took me one day to pull it down off of there. You can find more info on that on at http://www.teambg.net/forum/?board=94

Check out the Edonkey Userhash to download it and read the forums for more info.

The 10GB is a high estimate. The new distro will take ~2GB on top of your BG2 install (but it does need BG1 installed, temporarily at least) and should be available next week.

I was refering to the Mark II installation. Your installation version will make a huge difference because while I did not have any problem installing Mark II, it would not be easy for a computer novice.

Yeah, the complexity and size of the install puts a lot of people off at first. The new distro is complete, but I don't have the bandwidth to distribute it to the FTP or the P2P hosts until Tuesday. On the upside, it's now a double-click install.

I wouldn't worry too much about its beta status. I ran through the entire BG1 part on v1.8 (including all side quests) and encountered only one bug with Melicamp the chicken; it's now up to v1.12b. Bardez has been very good at hunting down and fixing bugs quickly.
