can Druids dual? If so, would a level 14 Shapeshifter (I think that's the level Shapeshifters can change to Greater Werewolf) dualled to Fighter rock the block, so to speak?

Druids can dual only to fighter within the coded limitations of the game engine.

In PnP they can dual to anything (except other priests) with the proper stats and no alignment conflicts. There are also priests of specific mythos (nature god/dess) that are nearly identical to druids but can have other alignments, so you could have a Ranger/"Druid". I know you didn't ask about that, but I figure I should head off the inevitable uninformed ranting. ;)

Shapeshifter/fighter is an interesting build. The only problem I see is the hit points. Too bad it can't be fighter/shapeshifter (without cheating).

Avenger/fighter would also be interesting -- but you would need to bring the avenger in from BG1 with a 19 strength.

If you can hold off on dualing after level 14. Wait till you surpass the level when you gain the Druid Magical resistances. It will be added to your GWW resistances.

I've still got an older version of Weimer's "Druid Rebalancing" from the Ease of Use mod on my machine, and that really does rock the block. Give the fighter 5 stars in Dagger (which is what Weimer made the GWW claws) and dual weilding and he'd cut like a buzzsaw through anything. I had heard that this particular section was toned down so I don't know if it would still work as well. BTW, I think they get GWW at level 13.

Although I've never done it, I've heard that when one imports a druid from BG1 into a BG2 Avenger kit he doesn't suffer a drop in stats; therefore a 17 STR would be sufficient. Of course this wouldn't work in the cases of BGT or BGTuTu.

But in that case you could get to 16 STR at character creation and then use the STR tome from under Candlekeep to boost your stat, allowing you to dual, assuming you had at least 15 WIS and CHA already.

I don't doubt it. I've found that most 'rebalancing' mods ... aren't. They tend to actually unbalance the game in favor of the class being rebalanced. There would never be any reason to dual a shapeshifter to fighter with the shapeshifter rebalancing mod -- the greater werewolf form in that mod is incredibly powerful. I've mentioned before that I believe Cernd in GWW using the mod could beat the slayer -- it's that unbalancing.

I never said that it was balanced. The reason that I keep the old version installed is that it feeds the occasional cheesy munchkin in me :) :D

I recommend druid duals or multis :) Powerful and fun. However, like mentioned above, only fighter is available (as long as you have 17 strength IIRC).

Correct on the strength. You also need at least a 15 in wisdom, although any half-decent druid will meet that requirement. However, it's a lot easier to dual FROM a druid that TO a druid. Since most people go F>D not D>F, it should be pointed out that the requirements are much more strict the other way around, because of the charisma requirement, and also you need to be TN. Of course, you'll also need at least a 15 strength and a 17 in wisdom.

Shame really as a Mage/Druid has always appealed.

Tried the Druidic Sorcerer but it is buggy and over balanced.

I always wanted a Ranger/Thief. The dual was really impressive in 1st ed rules when Rangers could cast 1st and 2nd level mage spells.

Both possible in PnP, though the alignment restrictions would be impressive; standard TN for the Mage/Druid and only NG or CG for the Ranger/Thief (rangers must be good, thieves can't be LG). In fact, you could even have a multi-class Mage/Druid as a half-elf; any half-elf cleric multi could also be a druid multi. 2e was never meant for computer games, I think. :bad:

Ranger/Mage has alwas been a dream of mine. but Mage/Druid, Ranger/Thief, Druid/Thief would be cool to. Is there a mod that can make these happen?

One of my favorite PnP characters was a Beastrider2->Mage8. With a worg to ride and a falcon familiar to scout from the air, it was a very fun character.
Not at present. It probably wouldn't take too much doing to make them available via SK, but making it so that you could actually choose those duals would require a concerted effort. Nonetheless, it's on my list of things to do when I master WeiDU.

Frankly, the only way to make something like that happen with WEIDU would be by creating a "Ranger" fighter kit or a "Druid" priest kit (which would require a lot of item useability hacks and be a compatibility nightmare). WEIDU can't bypass hard-coded engine restrictions and neither can SK.

From what I've seen, it doesn't look hard-coded. The various class combos (among other things) are listed in CLASS.IDS; couldn't you just append that file, and then create anything else needed for the class combos? It'd be a ***** to handle being able to dual everything in-game (would require a whole GUI setup), but so long as the class combo is there and DUALCLAS.2DA is altered, dualling to the six already choosable would work.

It's been tried. Many, many times. If you actually manage to create an illegal dual class, the game crashes. Unless you want to make "Ranger" a Fighter kit, you'll never see a Ranger/Thief.
