Monk shines from 15-21. Don't you ever read stuff? And the 5-6 damage, give him a strength item and it'll probably shoot up to 10ish. Wait until he gets level 15 and you'll be doing more damage than God. Oh wait, you said you quit. Sucks to be you.

While I agree that Faraaz gave up on his monk too soon, there is no need to be snippish about it Ekarderif. If he doesn't like playing monks, then that's that. Either show him some things he has not considered before about monks (like others did), or let it go. I've played a monk through SoA and still didn't like them too much. Just a matter of preferences.

Can't say I love monks either... Guess it is a case that they are under represented with magical items.

There are so many powerful weapons and armours that give so many added bonuses and special skills that a monk looses out on.

Meh...with my Undead Hunter, I get 50% MR right after Windspear Hills... ;)

@Ekarderif: Mate, I just started this thread to see which NPCs to take along...not a Monk vs. Everything else thread. Also...my lvl 13 Berserker with Edwin casting Improved Haste on him, gets 8 attacks, at 20-25 damage per hit...more than enough to make Monk Paste. Sucks to be me? Far from it... :p

    Edit: Removed stupid typos.

Oh, if you want to compare, a Kensai would be doing a lot more damage. Or take a Ranger/Cleric and grab DUHM. Or take an Archer and peg the enemy afar without any fear of dying. Or...

All I'm saying is monks don't suck. Of course there's a great number of things better than them, especially beyond level 21 when everyone start getting ludicrous, but there's much potential in them. And yes, sucks to be you.

Monk's will get much high MR than your paladin will ever get. Unfortunately, I find monks somewhat boring, as they are too powerful (at high levels. At low levels, I find them boring, because they suck :p )

Ah...some guys are just too lost to argue with. What part of "friendly advice" do you NOT understand Ekarderif? Meh...no more monk bashing on this thread. That'd be off topic and then Tal would have to ban us all...and we don't want THAT now, do we? :p

I've just finished with Trademeet, De'Arnisse Keep, Tanner quests, Graveyard district quests for Korgan, Edwin, Copper Coronet, and the first two of Aran Linvail's quests.

    The party is:
    Ranger/Cleric
    Korgan
    Viconia
    Edwin
    Jan (Jester!! :D )

As of now, I'm having a blast with these guys...especially with Jan. Banterpack's made him heaps better than before!

Jan is something like a guilty pleasure for me. Part of me can't stand him, but I just have to take him into my group. It's like some sort of unhealthy dependence. What a great NPC.

Well alright. I'm not THAT allergic.

Yep...Jan's making the game for me! I've bought him the Firetooth +3(??) from Watcher's Keep, and have him loaded up with the Flasher Bruiser Mates...he's AWESOME! :D

    "Your knees are MINE!!!" :shake:

Also...I was wondering...when exactly does the Nether Scroll quest kick off? I've got the scroll...Edwin hasn't reacted yet though.

The Nether Scroll takes a little time to kick in. But IMO is the funniest moment in the game. LOL right now thinking about it.

I just started a new party in TOA to eventually take to TOB. This party is especially for the ones who sit "on the character edge"....

    my mage thief
    Korgan
    Minsc and Space Hamster
    Edwin
    Vicky
and since I've never used him but have heard good things...Haer'Dalis. However if he doesn't bring some charisma to the table, he's out and Jan is in. You don't get a romance with the group above other than Edwin and Korgan hitting on Viconia...who puts them down pronto. When I take this party to TOB, I'll dump Minsc or Haer'Dalis for Sarevok.

That group above is hysterical thanks mostly to Korgan, everyone's favorite target for insults. Only challenge is keeping Edwin and Minsc in the game.

It's been a while since I've used Edwin, so I can't remember how much time passes on the Nether Scroll, but I do remember that you can screw it up from the get go. When Edwin finds the scroll, what you say to him in the dialogue determines the course of the "quest." You can kill it with one of your responses.

Another option for lots of "activity" in the party would be to form what I call a "Jerry Springer" party.Something like Korgan, Aerie, Keldorn, Minsc and Edwin. Replace the first two to leave/die with Vic and Amoen and make sure Amoen fails his test. For added fun you could romance Aerie and pick up Haer'Dalis, and see where that goes. Mostly, your job is to sit back and "Enjoy the Violence".

@Deuce: Actually, I think the perfect "messed up" party is Aerie, Jaheira, Viccy, Haer'Dalis, and Anomen with a failed knighthood. Don't reject any of the ladies early on, and it can get really messy!

Why are Aerie and Korgan an either / or situation? Can you not have them in the same party together?
