OK, coming back to BG2/ToB, with mods

    OK, I've decided to make a little Baldur's Gate 2 / Throne of Bhaal run on my free time. I've never completed ToB, and have only beaten BG2 once. So here goes nothing.

    I plan to use the Ascension mega-mod. Has anyone ever played this? If so, can you give me some feedback on it?

    My main character will be a female thief. With this in mind, I'm going to use the Improved Thief Stronghold mod fix. Again, feedback on this would be appreciated. I've read mixed reviews of this.

    Last but not least, my thief will be romancing Soluafein throughout her adventures in Amn. As before, any opinions on this romance, and the additional aspects of the mod?

    Also I'm looking for an ideal (4-6 player) party to take on all of BG2/ToB with, in Hard-Insane mode no less. Here's what I have so far.

    1. Lilya, PC thief
    2. Solaufein, drow fighter-mage
    3. Anomen, fighter-cleric
    4. Jaheira, fighter-druid

    Anyone have any opinions for me?

    The Solufein mod comes with a host of add-ons that are definitely worth it. Be prepared to get your ass kicked all over Athkatla shortly after you acquire Celestial Fury. (You'll end up with a katana that's IMO twice as powerful...provided you beat its wielder, of course..) The new Mae'var isn't a cake-walk either. Beware of revenge spiders, and kill them one at a time.

    Ummmmm...what else...

    If you're playing on insane, you're going to need a tank in that crowd, one with an obscenely low AC and a big nasty weapon. Korgan with Crom or whatnot.

    Sorry, but I haven't played Ascension or Improved guild.

    Get minsc, and possibly, say a katana freak like valygar since your going to need that stoping power on hard mode. also, replace minsc/valygar with sarevok in TOB. Maybe dont use valygar, but make a multiplayer game and create a pure-fighter that dual-weilds kats. just ym 2 cents.

    I'm currently playing through ToB with Ascension right now... and well... my party's average XP is ~6,500,000 and after about 6 straight hours I'm still getting my ass handed to me in the final fight. It's completely insane. David Giader must be on crack. Try it and you'll see. (I'm assuming you're using all the Improved Tougher ect ect patches too on top of Ascension, if not ignore this. :))
