Should blackrazor be more powerful?

It seems that at the point at which you get the weapon, shouldn't Blackrazor be better than a +3 weapon?

Do you guys think it's cheesy to edit the enchantment (not the bonus to thac0 and damage) to +4?

Heh, just feeling a little guilty because I don't want to "cheat". But I do have Weimer's Tactics installed, so I feel a little better.

Maybe, maybe not. In SOA, with very few exceptions, the top end of powerful weapons are +3 (Celestial Fury, etc.). BIO presumably wanted it to seem like an awesomely powerful weapon, which it is all things considered, but put it towards the end of the game for "balance" purposes, which cuts out a lot of the appeal.

In the stock game, you really don't need anything more powerful than a +3 weapon most of the time. Part of the thinking behind tactics is to make your opponents harder, and to limit your options, forcing you to use weapons you don't normally favor, etc.

Anyway, by the time your applying mods, "cheating" becomes a moot issue, in my opinion. Besides, what really matters is how much you enjoy your build of the game, not what other people think of your strategies. Do what you want.

But I do have to disagree with Killjoy about the availability of weapons with higher enchantments. You have many other options if you want to play tactics-style. Even in the SoA portion there are quite a few melee weapons that have +4 or +5 enchantments as well as extra abilities (e.g., Olidamara, Short Sword of Mask, Wave, Silver Sword, Purifier, Carsomyr, Crom Faer, Staff of the Woodlands, Spear of Withering, Soul Reaver, etc.). And there are others that have high enchantments without extra abilities (Cutthroat, Staff of Rynn, Warblade, etc.).

I'm fully in line with Bombur. It's your game, and you can only get as much fun out of it as you put into it. Go ahead and make it +4

I figured the abilities given to the weapon make up for the low enhancement bonus. Consider that if te magic it holds was all put into the enhancement bonus then it would probably be a +6 weapon at least.

Some of the weapons you've listed here are actually found in ToB, including Purifier and Mask. This is important because, in SoA, almost all the more than +3 weapons you find are two-handed (the one exception I can think of being Crom).

Actually, these are available in chapter 2 of SoA, as long as ToB is installed (which is a given for everyone posting in this forum). For the Short Sword of Mask, you can just walk to Watcher's Keep and buy it, without even fighting or hunting for it.

Thanks the replies guys. I read a few things on these forums that I want to verify.

    1) If you kill a creature by level drain (blackrazor) then all their items are lost?

    2) The haste on the blackrazor overrides improved haste, thus reducing your attacks per round if you have improved haste active?

I've been putting together a little mod package of items and I would really appreciate if anyone could help me with these questions.
