[IMG] After a slow start, I finally got my character through BG I and am about halfway through Shadows of Amn (sorry, missed the Sword Coast expansion). Where do I go next?

In short, what's the order of the series? Icewind Dale (and its expansion) or Throne of Bhaal?

No rush to answer. I figure I've still got months to go on "Shadows."

Throne of Bhaal is the expansion of Shadows of Amn, and the final episode of the Baldur's Gate saga.

Icewind Dale with expansion is a completely different game, which is far more action oriented than the BG-series.

Well, if you mean as in the next for the company that would probably be Neverwinter Nights. The next in the series is the expansion pack Throne of Bhaal. It much more than an expansion pack, practically another game in itself.

[IMG] Okay, but what happens to my character? (Hey, I spent a lot of time before rolling up those great stats!)

Can I import him to Neverwinter, build up exp, and then on to Throne? Or vice-versa? I wish Interplay would have explained this on their site.

Since Neverwinter Nights (NWN) won't be coming out until next year, it'd be better if you played SoA and import your character to ToB.

I think somebody mentioned that you can import your BG2 character into NWN but you'll lose everything in your inventory and you have to start over at the initial level in the game.

Might as well make a new character then.

From what I've gathered (which isn't much, and might not be 100% accurate), they thought it would be a cool idea to allow you to import a character from BG into NWN. When it came to implementing it, they realised this would be rather difficult, especially if someone had given their character all sorts of custom items, or simply were a high level, which would make them unbalanced against other people's characters. So I think the proposal is you simply import stats, race, sex and (possibly) appearance, to a level 1 character.

As far as I know it's impossible to transfer characters across games (eg. from BG2 to Icewind Dale etc.) except as previously mentioned, simply transferring the character rolls. I strongly reccommend you play Throne of Bhaal next, so as to complete the final chapter in the 'child of Bhaal' trilogy. In fact if you buy and install it now you'll also get the whole new Watcher's Keep dungeon imported into your game. TOB is great, and is definitely not just your bogstandard add-on.

Icewind Dale is certainly worth playing, although as fare as most people are concerned it's not a patch on BG2, and was something of a stop-gap for those people waiting for BG2 to be released. Of course if you haven't played Planescape then that's an essential purchase..
