[IMG] Druids, they get the best spell in the game - Nature's Beauty.

I like cleirics because you can give them good armor, Crom Faeyr, the fortress sheild, and some other items and use them as good frontline fighters.

  5. Druid. Because if you extract Jaheira's voice then you can say cool things like "Nature, take the life she gave!" while being in character. Plus, druid spells rock.

clerics are totally kick arse fighters. priest of helm is a great investment in ToB, cos they have #1 turn undead #2 access to sweet weapons and armour and #3 can even be good at chuckin a slingshot every now and again. a great all round fighter and shooter.

Why do people insist that clerics are good fighters? Sure they can get a low AC, and what's that good for?... a punching bag that's what. So if you want a punching bag then go ahead and put a cleric on the frontline cause that's all that's gonna happen... you'll absorb a lot of hits. With the crap THAC0 and 1 attack per round you certainly won't be hitting anything in return.

Keep your damn clerics in back out of the way of the real fighters please. :)

Clerics...hmm...I would prefer the druids over clerics. Why? Simply druids have very good defensive and offensive spells.

I mean the iron skins for example. A way better defense than any of the "cool" cleric defense spells. The many elemental summonings also shows, that druids are mutch better and fun to play than clerics.

    Hi,

For me its a time/xp thing as to which is better.
Druids are better earlier in the game because of spells like ironskin, insect swarm/plague and those great fire elemental summons.
However come mid game, because of the screwed xp table for druids, clerics start to come into their own. They are now high enough level to really combat undead and demons effectively with their spells and abilities, turn undead (instant kills) bolt of glory, sunray, false dawn, holy word etc and there are a lot of these creatures in the game.
End game I think druids take the lead again, although its closer and more dependent on playing style which one is better. Suddenly druids get many more spells when they hit the 3m xp mark and those greater summon spells and shapechange elemental spells are really powerful.

I have taken a mainly offensive view here as I think defensively they are very similar with maybe a few useful minor differences such as santuary and entangle.

    Cheers,

    WittyNewt.

  10. Clerics all the way!!! (I had better not find Dudette in this topic...) Clerics: They can get good armour and weapons, they have good spells, they can really heal. Druids: They can shapechange(who cares the cleric has lower AC than the shapechanged form) They have really neat nature spells( who cares when it comes to nature clerics don't go all dramatic and sissy about animals who are only worth 1exp if you kill them)

[IMG] Clerics .... why? Because I AM one ;)

Seriously, I have a beserker dc to cleric dual weilding Crom Fayr & the Flail of Ages. He can cast Aura of flaming death and the shield of Archons on himself, then wade into battle and watch the badies fly :)

Druids are okay, but they aren't "me" ... but I won't play without one as an NPC. To many good spells. I just wish they made better druidish weapons. :(

I prefer having both a druid and a cleric in my party, but when I can only choose one, I will choose the cleric. Why? I don't have a clue myself, but I will tell you when I figure it out.

a level 15 druid would have the ability to cast 6 level 7 spells, whereas the clerical equivalent (level 21) would only be able to cast 2 level 7 spells

Surely not? I don't have my manual for reference (in my brother's hands) but that doesn't sound right...
    Guess I'd better check.

[IMG] Druids have much more appeal than clerics; I just prefer the idea of a wild man/woman of the forest bending the very flora/fauna to his/her will than a dour, taciturn man/lady of the cloth. However, there are too many cleric-only preist spells that I find simply indispensible. For example, I dont think Druids get restoration (or any other undead baiting fare, for that matter), a problem which I only noticed as I was happily getting into my Treehugging Party game with Jaheira and Cernd on healing duties when I tried to fight a horde of vampires and died horribly and prematurely.

As I find them merely necesary and not particularly appealing, I try and keep my clerics as part of a multi or dual class by taking Aerie or Anomen and, if I want a druid, making him/her my pc or taking Cernd (although I also love Jaheira).

    Hi,

I think Jaheira gets "Harpers Call" which is equivalent to restoration? or maybe its equivalent to resurrection? can't remember.... Anyway, I never travel anywhere without a few restoration scrolls and a cleric to cast them.

Also, I agree with a couple of previous posters, take both if you can, but if you can only have one, cleric would be the choice.

    Cheers,

druids are the greatest why?? because i am one in bg1 and 2 and in advanced dungeons and dragons
its just becauz ive got never bored with druids they have cool healing spells(so a druid is the last man standing and clerics too)they can conjure elementals and animals they can shapechance and(in AD&D) fly away if there is danger and so i can go on for hours but the point is druids are the best if not, tell me why not

Harper's Call is an extremely bad version of Raise dead, which actually injures the caster (Jaheira).

I tend to have both a cleric and a druid in my group, but if I must choose, I'd pick the druid. Why, you say? Well, because of Greater Elemental Summoning, Creeping Doom, Iron Skins and the like. You can't live without them! ;)
Also, I prefer my druids to be fighter combinations of some sort, as that makes the Iron Skins so much more effective.

    [IMG] Hi,

Thanks for the info, never used the spell, rod of resurrection does it for me.

As I said earlier in the thread, Which is best for me depends on the stage of the game both in time and xp terms.

Also, the druid leveling chart is so screwed that it really does demand a multiclass fighter/druid if you want your character to improve after 1.5m xp. If you are only playing upto the SOA xp cap that is going to be particularly frustrating for a plain druid.

    Cheers,

    WittyNewt
